Primary Purpose
Idaho State University’s Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a 9-month, full time, non-tenure-track position as an Assistant Lecturer in Biology. The selected candidate is expected to join our faculty team in the delivery of high-quality life science courses on our Idaho Falls campus beginning August 2021. The Idaho Falls campus is an outreach campus of Idaho State University that serves traditional and non-traditional students in the surrounding region.

Key Responsibilities
The assistant lecturer will teach Anatomy and Physiology, but will be expected to teach general biology and upper division courses in areas that support the BS in Biology degree curricula, particularly biomedical courses, such as cell biology and immunology as needed. Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes. Coordination of labs, student advising, and other duties will be part of the assigned teaching load. A demonstrated ability to engage undergraduate students in research is strongly preferred. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, interest in active and collaborative learning, and enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment are all expected features of a successful candidate. Ideal candidates will have a focus on student success and foster an engaging learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of educational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant life sciences field
  • Experience in teaching anatomy and physiology courses at the college level
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate laboratory materials and resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous involvement in educational outreach activities
  • Experience developing course materials
  • Demonstrated ability to involve students in research
  • Experience in human cadaver dissection
