The Department of Education, Development, Teaching, and Learning (EDTL) at Central Washington University (CWU) invites applications for Full Time Tenure-Track Faculty in Elementary Science and Mathematics. The Department of EDTL has approximately 15 full-time faculty and offers undergraduate who offer undergraduate majors, minors and/or teaching endorsements in Bilingual Education/Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Literacy, and Special Education. EDTL also offers an advanced certificate program in TESL. Faculty and staff are committed to ensuring graduates are prepared to be outstanding educational leaders and facilitators of learning who demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to educate and work within a diverse school population.

Responsibilities include:

a) Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Elementary Education Science and Mathematics.

b) Assisting with the development of the Elementary Education program in relation to Science and Mathematics education.

 

Education faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to a constructivist philosophy, keep abreast of current and emerging education trends (e.g., performance-based program assessment, educational technology), and possess an understanding and commitment to the principles of diversity. Distance education, online, and off-campus teaching are expected. Faculty will integrate CWU’s commitment to diversity and create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all students. Required Qualifications

 

· Ph.D. or Ed.D. in relevant course of study (ABD candidates may be considered, however, the terminal degree must be completed within one year of start date.).

· Three or more years of teaching experience at the pK-12 grade level in Science, Mathematics, Elementary Education, or related field.

· Possess superior teaching abilities.

· Experience in pK-12 program and professional development.

· Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU’s commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.

· Ability to teach Elementary Mathematics and Science methods courses.

· Ability to teach field experience and/or practicum courses in Elementary Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications

· University-level teaching experience.

· Experience or interest in developing and teaching online courses.

· Experience in curriculum development and improvement.

· Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom conversations.

· Experience working in a diverse environment and/or utilizing a variety of teaching methods designed for broad student success.

· Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.

· Involvement in professional associations.

· Experience with distance, hybrid, and on-line educational systems.

· Experience with a range of age levels, diverse populations, and rural settings.

· Possession of or eligibility for a valid teaching certificate for any US state.

· Effective planning skills.

· Excellent communication skills.
