Position Title Stationary Engineer/Third Shift Overview

Under the supervision of the Power Plant Manager, operate the power plant and auxiliary equipment for maximum efficiency and uninterrupted service to the College.

Maintain the power plant systems and equipment in good repair and working order.

Essential Duties:

1. Operate the power plant unsupervised at times.
2. Properly interpret readings, meters, gauges, etc. to meet conditions of varying power load and demand rate.
3. Maintain specified pressures and temperatures as required.
4. Maintain equipment and make repairs and adjustments as required.
5. Diagnose and remedy issues quickly to prevent shutdowns.
6. Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment.
7. Perform maintenance and cleaning of boilers and equipment on a recurring basis as required.
8. Record Information as required.
9. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, observing good and safe housekeeping practices.
10. Perform job in a safe manner using necessary safety equipment and procedures.
11. Must be able to perform chemical analysis of boiler feed water, chilled water, and heating hot water, and treat systems as required.
12. Troubleshoot power plant systems.
13. As required, be prepared to work extended shift hours during emergencies and snow events and provide additional shift coverage when shorthanded.

Marginal Duties:

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

• Have and maintain a City of Providence Stationary Engineer license.
• At least five (5) years of power plant experience.
• Have good oral and written communications skills.
• Have an ability to see within normal parameters
• Have an ability to hear within normal range
• Have an ability to move about
• Understand the symbols and interpretation of building, mechanical, and electrical prints.
• High school, technical or trade school graduate or equivalent.

Physical Demands

• Physical Requirements: Stationary Engineer must be able to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs, and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing excess of 200 lbs. He/she must be able to work in confined spaces requiring bending or stooping for long periods and be able to work from ladders or elevated platforms. • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Work Environment: Stationary Engineer will be required to work in conditioned and unconditioned spaces.
• Must be able to work weekends and Holidays.
• Must be able to work rotating shift schedule
