Job Description:

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) is seeking exam proctors for the academic year. Exam proctors ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations under the Americans with Disability Act during testing in academic subjects. Exam proctors are responsible for maintaining the security of testing materials and the integrity of the testing process.

Exam proctors will work under supervision of the Center for Student Success and Engagement (CSSE). Weekly hours will be determined based on student need and in consultation with CSSE. There will be a mandatory 10 hour paid training for these positions.

Exam proctors are temporary, part-time, renewable positions which are paid on an hourly basis. The rate of pay is $15/hour.

Summary of key responsibilities

  • Verify student identification.
  • Arrange pick-up and maintain security of all testing materials.
  • Notify students of policies and procedures regarding proctored exams.
  • Read and understand instructions for exams.
  • Inform students of exam requirements, as described in exam instructions.
  • Ensure a secure testing environment, including requiring students to power down and store cellphones and other electronic devices.
  • Prepare exam room and ensure that room is supplied with necessary materials.
  • Distribute testing materials.
  • Supervise students taking exams, remain observant and attentive at all times during testing period.
  • Track time for exam period and ensure that exam is completed at the appropriate time.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students taking exams.
  • Follow appropriate procedures in cases of suspected violations of academic integrity.
  • Ensure that completed testing materials are kept secure and are delivered to CSSE in a timely way.

  • Ability to read and understand exam directions and communicate these clearly to students.
  • Ability to keep correct time.
  • Ability to maintain security and integrity of exam materials.
  • Ability to provide effective oversight of students taking exams.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Flexibility in work schedule.



Requirements:
  • AA degree.
  • Experience in teaching, test administration, and/or higher education.
  • Ability to give written and oral instructions, and to communicate well and professionally with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Some daytime, evening, and weekend availability is required.
