Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology

Augustana University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department, to begin Fall 2021.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment, coupled with teaching ability in the areas of medical sociology, gender, and social inequality.  Experience or special interest in gender and aging/gerontology is welcomed.

The load for this position is three courses per semester plus one course during our January term. Applicants should be prepared to teach the following courses at a minimum: Intro to Sociology, Medical Sociology, Social Inequality, and Race and Gender in Medicine and Health Care (or equivalent), plus a sociology topics course of the applicant’s choosing during the January term.

The University will seek applications for a tenure track position with similar teaching responsibilities to start Fall 2022; the successful VAP candidate is welcome to apply.

Augustana University will continue to monitor concerns related to Covid-19 and its variants in the months to come, and we expect to provide all, or nearly all, of our instruction in face-to-face labs and classes beginning fall of 2021. Applicants for faculty and staff positions should thus be prepared to participate fully in on-campus, face to face experiences in the coming academic year.  

Qualifications:  Completed Ph.D. in sociology required by September 1, 2021. Evidence of teaching excellence is expected.
