Overview

Employment Status: Full-time, probationary "exempt" position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some nights and weekends

First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed beginning March 5, 2020.

Position Summary:

Responsible for all aspects of pre-award functions for grant and contract submissions, including communications with Principal Investigators (PIs), forms preparation for proposal submission, budget preparation and proposal review and submission.

Typical Activities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Funding Opportunity Identification:
  • Incumbent works with the Director of Research Development and faculty and staff of the university to identify and communicate sources of external funding.
  • Conducts research to identify funding resources; identifies and matches opportunities to faculty interests.
  • Meets with faculty to analyze and discuss funding opportunities and proposal development process.
Proposal Preparation and Submission:
  • Incumbent works with Grant Development Officer and faculty and staff of the university facilitate grant and contract submissions.
  • Creates checklists and templates for proposal submission, reviews grant proposal formatting for RFA consistency, assists with developing proposal budgets, drafts supporting documents, letters of support and other materials related to grants and contracts during the pre-award process; populates sponsor application forms as well as S2S (Cayuse) forms as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with funding guidelines and funding agency requirements for both public and private funders.
Research Development Programs:
  • Works with Director of Research Development to prepare training materials, coordinates and assists in conducting annual grant writing academy, faculty training workshops and intramural grant proposal submission.
  • Maintains and updates the list of proposals in the pipeline.

System Updates:
  • Assures that the RD website, the project management system and Cayuse SP and 424 systems have complete and up-do-date information about PIs, proposal submission and routing, and follows up on assuring that the necessary routing steps have been completed.

Research Compliance:
  • Works closely with the staff in pre-award, post-award and research compliance offices to assure consistency and correct workflow of the research compliance documents and processes which originate in the pre- or post award offices.
  • Serves as a pre- and post-award liaison to the office of research compliance.


Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, PLUS two years of related experience.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
  • Attention to be detailed orientated.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage time wisely.
  • Ability and specialized skills to take the initiative to plan independently, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved; expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications.
  • Ability to follow directions with details.
  • Interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Perform basic research, analyze data and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Work requires regular participation in planning and development activities and, as required, independent determination of methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals relevant to the office.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and edit federal, state and other government grant proposals.
  • Effective interpersonal & human relations skills; particularly, a demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and at varying organizational levels within the institution.
  • Ability to listen and develop information into funding opportunity searches.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty in various disciplines.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, with various software programs (esp., Excel & Word).
  • Ability to develop project budgets complying with all agency, federal and University guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to analyze grant guidelines and apply comprehensive knowledge of educational content to grant requirements (requires a strong attention to detail)
  • Ability to work on multiple high-stakes deadline-driven projects simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional work experience in higher education.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
