Assistant Professor - Mental Health Counseling

Job Summary

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, 9-month academic year, tenure-track assistant professor in Mental Health Counseling master's program.

The Department of Psychology has approximately 20 FTE faculty members, over 200 undergraduate majors, and about 75 graduate students in mental health counseling, school psychology, and experimental psychology.  The department has a strong commitment to increasing the diversity of its faculty and student body.  All university faculty are expected to practice effective teaching, conduct scholarly activity, and perform professional and community service.

The person filling this position in the Department of Psychology will serve as a member of the department's CACREP-accredited Mental Health Counseling master's program. Additional job responsibilities include teaching counseling-related graduate courses, teaching undergraduate psychology courses, supervising counseling practica, developing a research program suitable for the involvement of undergraduate and graduate students , and providing quality service to the department, university, community, and their profession. In addition, faculty are expected to create a campus environment that is welcoming, inclusive and increasingly diverse. Faculty will have a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, scholarship, working with underrepresented populations, and creating an inclusive environment for our increasingly diverse student body.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program by September 15, 2021
  • Experience as a licensed counselor and license eligible in the state of Washington (LMHC)
  • Multicultural competence and commitment to supporting and promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity
  • Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong professional identity as a counselor educator
  • Record of scholarly productivity
  • Training and experience providing clinical supervision
  • Graduate coursework in psychology
  • Experience in tele-mental health
  • Experience working in a diverse environment and/or utilizing a variety of teaching methods designed for broad student success.
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion.

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available.
Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
