General Summary/Purpose:
Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals (EP) is seeking a Multimedia Technician to serve in its Center for Digital and Media Initiatives. EP is the division of the Whiting School of Engineering that serves online and part-time students across 20 engineering and applied science master’s degree and certificate programs.

The successful candidate must be highly self-driven, proactive, and demonstrate the ability to work independently, maintain organization and customer service excellence with faculty and staff. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Digital and Media Initiatives (CDMI) and is located at the Stieff Silver Building in Baltimore, Maryland. The Multimedia Technician will work closely with instructional design and technology staff in developing content for online courses, serving as the primary video editor for all online courses. Course video content is produced at CDMI-managed studios in the Stieff Silver Building, on the Homewood Campus, and the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), as well as from home studios.

Specific duties & Responsibilities:

  • Edit audio and video of instructors and guest lecturers developing EP online and virtual live courses.
  • Collaborate with instructional design and technology staff to create effective online training resources for instructors.
  • Help maintain, improve, and organize the video production project templates (Asana, Excel), and media storage systems (Kaltura, local NAS).
  • Provide support and training for instructors on best practices when creating video recordings.
  • Work with various software tools to produce, enhance, and publish media assets, including Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder), Camtasia, and Kaltura.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree;
  • Knowledge of and experience with audio and video production tools and processes, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, and Kaltura;
  • Experience with web conferencing and live streaming services and hardware; Experience working in an educational environment. Experience working directly with faculty members and/or subject matter experts.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong self-management skills.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to operate professional audio and video post-production equipment;
  • Ability to exercise diplomatic communication skills while working with highly-specialized faculty and staff to create the best product for the required learning modality;
  • Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies and demonstrated experience in integrating these in online instruction using best practices.
  • Ability to utilize strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills when interacting with faculty members and colleagues internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and solve problems in creative and productive ways.


Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with streaming audio and video, compression methods, and related software and platforms (i.e., Camtasia Studio, Kaltura, etc.).
  • Proven ability to continually adapt and learn new procedures, systems and software applications.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate using a variety of synchronous meeting tools (i.e., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
