Director of Mission and Campus Ministry



The Director of Mission and Campus Ministry assists the President, the University’s chief mission officer, and the entire Notre Dame community with integrating the mission into their lived experience. The Director fosters the spiritual life of the campus by attending to the religious, liturgical, personal and social development of the faith community. The Director is responsible for creating a vibrant and active campus ministry program designed to provide support to enhance students’ spiritual development.

Essential Functions include, but not limited to:

  • Provides leadership to the campus community in understanding and valuing the University mission, the congregational values and educational vision of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), and Catholic intellectual and social teaching.
  • Assists the President in maintaining and strengthening relationships with external constituencies such as the SSND provincial and international community, the local archbishop and archdiocese, the area parishes, and related local, national and international groups
  • Works collaboratively with members of the campus community, implements mission education program new faculty and conducts mission orientation for staff members, students and various campus constituents.
  • Ensures that the University provides formal and informal opportunities for mission reflection and fosters concrete ways to highlight and integrate NDMU core values across the campus community.
  • Creates an atmosphere of presence on campus through availability to people, especially students, and by attending various campus activities and events.
  • Coordinates opportunities for counseling, spiritual direction, and sacramental preparations such as Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
  • Advises the campus ministry student organization/peer ministry and CRS Ambassadors.
  • Works with part time Chaplain and Sacristan to plan and execute annual and regular liturgical celebrations and creating a presence on campus.
  • Leads and guides the Catholic Intellectual Life Committee and works closely with all divisions to implement relevant and engaging mission related events and initiatives including attending to its Catholic identity in a manner that welcomes people from diverse traditions, cultures, and perspectives.


Qualifications

Candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry or other related field; Master’s degree preferred. Be a practicing Roman Catholic who demonstrates an experiential and theological knowledge of the Catholic faith as articulated by Vatican II and subsequent teaching. Three to f ive years of related experience in youth/adult ministry and/or campus ministry. Experience in teaching or in administration in Catholic higher education, and experience mentoring others in implementing programs and initiatives is preferred.

Position requires knowledge and respect of the Catholic intellectual life and social teachings, including demonstrated knowledge of the SSND charism and spirituality. Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to facilitate mentoring, leadership, and management. Proven ability to establish relationships and programs designed to support the personal and spiritual development of students, faculty, and staff. Be interested in and sensitive to the needs and practices of people from a wide range of faith traditions and different cultural backgrounds so that all members of campus community feel welcomed. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) required. Physical Requirements: Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Some occasional light physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required. Some evening and weekend hours required along with ability to work regularly on Sundays.
