Position Summary
The College Librarian for the Bay College Library leads the library in creating a service-oriented and innovative library to support teaching and learning in a continuously changing environment. This position also works to provide materials and services to promote learning, instruction, research, self-awareness, and cultural awareness.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science or related area from an ALA accredited program
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a library setting
- Experience working with multiple facets of an Integrated Library System (ILS), OCLC, MARC and current library technologies
- Experience in supervising, training, and/or coordinating the work of others
- Experience providing reference and instructional services
- Experience using existing and emerging technologies to provide and enhance library and information services
- Experience in policy development, planning, and budgeting
- Working knowledge of basic desktop applications, technology hardware and related peripherals
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and the ability to facilitate communication within the library, with faculty and staff, and with external stakeholders
- Commitment to promoting diversity, enhancing student success, and advancing customer service
- Experience in delivering public service in an academic library

Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program
- 5 years of experience in an academic library, of which at least five years have been in a position of administration
- Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, e.g. Jenzabar, and a Course Management System (CMS), e.g. Blackboard
- Experience with library data collection and analysis procedures
- Ability to maintain effective and collegial working relations with library staff, students, faculty, and administration
- Desire to foster a culture of reading and lifelong learning

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Hiring, scheduling, and evaluating employees supervised.
- Setting goals and objectives for employees supervised.
- Delegating tasks and functions to qualified employees supervised.
- Providing assistance and support for all employees supervised.
- Creating a supportive working relationship for all employees supervised.
- Manage a collection of learning resources (books, journals, databases, media) that meets the evolving needs of the College's students, faculty, staff, and programs. Balance the collection with both print and digital resources to meet user's needs.
- Manage the library's human, fiscal, and physical resources effectively.
- Provide an appropriate level of reference and other services for the library's users and the promotion of those services.
- Plan and implement initiatives to enhance services and collections, to further the creative use of emerging technologies in library services and operations.
- Develop and manage integrated and collaborative approaches for handling organizational information collections that may include archives, official records, electronic documents, shared files, repositories of learning models/objects, and locally-created digital collection known as Project Pioneer.
- Provides oversight for the integration of library services with information technologies and learning initiative in support of the Colleges academic programs.
- Keeps abreast of trends in academic libraries, educational technologies, and how the library's role is changing
- Foster an environment that promotes communication and planning with all library staff.
- Work closely and collaboratively with academic and administrative departments, faculty, and staff. Also, act as liaison between ITS and Library vendors.
- Serve on college committees and task forces as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the local public libraries and high schools to promote library services.
- Comply with accreditation library collection guidelines ? for example, NLNAC.
- Compile information for library surveys and reports ? for example, NCES.
- Instruct and assist students, faculty, staff and community members in using the resources the library provides
- Provide reference services to users using a variety of formats and informational sources.
- Selects materials (books, AV, periodicals in physical and online formats) to support the Library's/College's mission and maintains the collection through acquisition of new material and elimination of dated materials based on professional recommendations.
- Assist in the day-to-day library operations.
- ILL responsibilities that include locating materials and processing requests
- Opening and closing of the Library, circulation desk duties which include: charging/discharging material, renewal of material, registration of patrons, creation of student and staff I.D. cards, answering phones, and assisting patrons with computers, photocopiers, fax, etc.
- Assist in the collection of data to maintain/manage services and collections in order to assess and strengthen library services.
- Provide reference services to users using a variety of formats and informational sources.
- Oversee and manage the College's archives, maintained in the library.

Related Duties:
- Any other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services
- Provide Library activity report to Vice President of Student Services to include in monthly report package to the Board of Trustees.

Pay Rate:
$58,445 - $73,056 annually

Library Administrative Assistant (part-time 29 hrs per week/52 weeks), and work-study students

Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Services.
