Description:

The Marine Genomics Laboratory (MGL) at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of researchers as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Aquaculture Genetics. The candidate is expected to work independently and will lead a currently funded project aimed developing next-generation tools and strategies for selective breeding of oysters. In addition, the individual will contribute to various ongoing research projects involving aquaculture genomics of oysters and other species. This position requires experience with statistical and analytical processing of genetic data (traits, pedigrees, etc.) and experimental hatchery and field experience related to oyster breeding and aquaculture.

Responsibilities:
  • Genetic data analysis and genomic tool development for oyster breeding.
  • Bioinformatic and statistical processing of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Design and oversight of oyster breeding experiments.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed, scientific journals.
  • Includes keeping current with appropriate literature.
  • Participate in writing proposals to funding sources.
  • Attend scientific meetings to disseminate research results.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Biological Sciences
  • Relevant publication record
  • Experience with experimental or industrial breeding of oysters or other bivalve molluscs
  • Strong statistical and computational background
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with ploidy manipulation in bivalve molluscs

Experience with the R programming language
