Responsibilities:
Delta State University (DSU) seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as its next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA). The successful applicant should be a forward-thinking, strategic executive committed to enhancing the overall academic experience. The Provost/VPAA is responsible for providing campus-wide leadership, supervision, and guidance, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Provost/VPAA is also responsible for all aspects of academic programs and curricula, assessment, and accreditation to meet the University's mission and vision, and to assure academic excellence.

The Provost/VPAA serves as the chief academic officer for the University and is responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, administration, management, and oversight of all academic divisions, departments, and programs and the services that support them - including, but not limited to, the Office of the Registrar, the academic colleges and school, Library Services, Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies, the Ford Center for Teaching and Learning, the Student Success Center, and Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness and Planning.

The Provost/VPAA works with the President, Executive Cabinet members, division deans and chairs, department directors, faculty, staff, and other college divisions to assure delivery of high-quality instruction and services to meet the needs of students and the community.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the chief academic officer
  • Provide executive leadership for institutional research and assessment
  • Maintain effective channels of communication with all constituent groups
  • Represent the University at the IHL system and other external group meetings on matters related to academic affairs
  • Provide leadership and oversight of all academic areas and related initiatives of the University
  • Provide vision and creative leadership for strengthening the University's mission, supporting undergraduate and graduate programs, and increasing academic excellence
  • Initiate and support professional development and research opportunities for faculty
  • Oversee academic retention efforts
  • Ensure fair and equitable allocation of resources for academic and student support services
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a higher education setting
  • Ensure compliance with all governing policies and standards (e.g., DOE, SACSCOC, IHL, others)
  • Collaborate with appropriate entities to develop and promote an integrated approach to enrollment management
  • Promote leadership and engagement opportunities for students
  • Other duties as assigned by the President of the University


    Qualifications:
    Requirements:

    • An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., DMA, MFA)
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive higher education administrative experience directly related to the position in a university setting
    • Achieved rank of Associate Professor or Professor and meets the University’s eligibility requirements for appointment to Associate Professor or higher rank

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of federal and state programs and laws, higher education policies, issues and initiatives, and assessment methods that specifically address higher education and academic issues
    • Knowledge and experience in areas of academic affairs to include program and curriculum development, assessment, distance learning, library/learning resources, instructional technology, general education, developmental education, career education, regional accreditation, and faculty/staff development and retention
    • Understanding and advocacy of equitable and inclusive policies and practices for a diverse campus community and constituents
    • Promotion of shared governance
    • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, contributing to positive student outcomes, student engagement, and retention
    • Excellent data-informed decision-making skills
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all constituencies
    • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
    • Experience as a collaborative, results-oriented leader skilled in strategic budget and human resource management


    Salary:
    12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
