Assistant Professor of Religious Studies (Tenure-Track)

The College of St. Scholastica invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Religious Studies in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies beginning Fall 2021. The department plays an important role in the academic formation of all students, introducing them to diverse religious and spiritual traditions.

We seek a colleague with doctoral training and expertise in the discipline of religious studies, who is comfortable teaching regular survey courses on religions of the world and the theories and methods in the study of religion, as well as other courses depending upon expertise and department needs. Candidates should have an active scholarly agenda and proven excellence in creative and student-centered learning at the undergraduate level. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice.

The ideal candidate will be a collegial and collaborative colleague committed to the College’s Catholic Benedictine values and fostering a culture of inclusive excellence in support of the College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. The position also offers opportunities to collaborate with Catholic Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, Sustainability, and Women and Gender Studies programs. PhD should be secured by date of appointment. Review of applications will begin two weeks after initial posting.

Key Responsibilities:
- Teach introductory survey courses in religious studies and other courses based on expertise and department need.
- Participate in department, college, and community service.
- Maintain an active research agenda demonstrated through presentations and publication
- Contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of inclusion in support of college diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

Required Qualifications:
- Completed doctorate in hand by date of appointment
- Proven excellence in creative and student-centered learning at the undergraduate level.
- Active scholarly agenda

Preferred Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to social justice, as demonstrated through teaching, relevant research or community engagement.
- Interest in collaborating with the interdisciplinary programs in the School of Arts and Letters, such as Catholic Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, Sustainability, and Women and Gender Studies programs.
