Position Summary:
Willamette University, a selective private university in Salem, Oregon, invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track position in the field of data and computer science, specialization open, to begin in August 2021. The successful candidate will have a tenure home in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts & Sciences, and a joint appointment in the interdisciplinary Committee of Studies of Computational, Data, and Information Sciences — a cross-university collaboration offering Bachelor of Science programs in Data Science and Computer Science and a Master of Science program in Data Science.
Successful candidates will have earned a doctorate in computer science, data science, or a related field before appointment, and have demonstrated ability to teach coursework in these fields, as well as the motivation and aptitude to participate in building innovative computer and data science programs. All College faculty advise students and contribute to the General Education program, including our first-year experience, in addition to teaching courses in their area of expertise. While the teaching for this position will be primarily at the undergraduate level, depending on the area of specialty, there is the possibility for graduate teaching as well. We have an active teacher-scholar model, and also expect tenure-line faculty to contribute to faculty governance and to our vibrant university community.
