At a time when public health has never been more important, Temple University’s College of Public Health is working to solve health’s complexities for a better tomorrow. As one of the largest colleges of public health in the country, we are home to faculty who specialize in 17 health disciplines to prepare researchers, practitioners and educators to collaborate across disciplines to understand community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care. We invite applications for a non-tenure track faculty position that will include instruction and serving as Doctoral Capstone Coordinator in Occupational Therapy to begin Summer 2021.

Qualifications. We seek doctoral prepared faculty who have experience in coordinating doctoral capstone experiences and/or teaching in Occupational Therapy. Applicants should have professional experience as licensed occupational therapists and a successful record of teaching in occupational therapy programs. Applicants must be certified by NBCOT and eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in Pennsylvania. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. Dependent on qualifications, rank is open at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor on the non-tenure instructional track. We seek individuals prepared to join us in our commitment toward prioritizing sustainable, inclusive, and anti-oppressive practices.

The Program. Occupational Therapy at Temple is nationally recognized for its educational programs and research, based on the philosophy that humans are occupational beings able to maximize their health and quality of life when engaged in meaningful activity. Our faculty are recognized for leading scholarship in the areas of accessibility and inclusion, person-environment interactions, telehealth, and trauma informed care. The program is in the process of transitioning from an entry-level masters to an entry-level doctoral program.  Cohort sizes are 60 students, and will begin June of 2022.

The Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. We are unlike any other department in the country. Located on a single urban campus in Philadelphia, the Department’s 38 full-time faculty provide instruction in 10 degree programs across all levels of education to approximately 1,300 students. In addition to Occupational Therapy, the Department includes degrees in Health Professions (BS), Athletic Training (MSAT, DAT), Neuromotor Science (MS, PhD), Physical Therapy (DPT), and Recreation Therapy (BS and MS). In addition, the Department offers 2 certificate programs (Health Outcomes and Measurement Science, Post-Professional Certificate in OT) and an Orthopedic PT Residency. Additionally, the Department works closely with other professions including public health, nursing, social work, and communication sciences.

Priority focus areas for the Department include interprofessional education/research, service learning and teaching excellence. Current research emphases are child health outcomes and patient-reported measures of health status for children, physical activity feedback technology for people with disabilities, community access for children with diverse sensory abilities, field-based interventions including recreation for adults with mental health disorders, measurement of environmental interactions for persons with autism spectrum disorders, and the development of devices using virtual environments to manipulate visual input for persons with traumatic brain injuries.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling about 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders.  The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice. We are harnessing the collective energies of our clinical disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education.
