The Associate Director serves as the senior case manager for complex, high-risk, and high priority student cases. The position supports students and their families managing crises, life traumas, and other concerns or barriers that impede success. This position is responsible for office operations, supervising the Office Coordinator, and multiple case managers. The Associate Director has significant on-call responsibilities, serving as a central member of the on-call rotation directing the response to after-hours student emergencies such as suicide attempts, issues/injuries requiring hospitalization, and other high-risk situations. This position collaborates with campus and community resources, including: Barnes Center at the Arch, Athletics, The Office of Financial Aid, Bursar, Registrar, Department of Public Safety, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Center for International Services, Office of Student Living, Housing, Center of Disability Resources, and the Office of Equal opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services. This position will also have frequent interactions with faculty, advisors and student support services within the Schools and Colleges, from across the institution. This position also serves as a core member of the Threat Assessment Team as the Coordinator of Records (CoR).

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Higher Education Counseling with 5-7 years’ experience, in a higher education setting.

Prior work experience in higher education case management required.

Responsibilities

Manage the operations of the case management function for the Office of the Dean of Students including front desk operations. Serve in a primary role on complex, critical operations, and campus concerns such as chair for the Behavioral Concerns Committee ( BCC ) to address disruptive and disturbing behavioral issues by collaborative plans of action. Serve as a core member of the Threat Assessment Management Team ( TAMT ) as the Coordinator of Records. Serve regularly in the on-call rotation, directing the response to after-hours student emergencies such as suicide attempts, issues/injuries requiring hospitalization, and other high-risk situations. Provides consistent follow up.

Establish and foster relationships with campus partners across the University community and among the Schools/Colleges to establish ongoing collaborations for the early identification and intervention with at-risk students or students in distress.

Focus on complex, high-risk, and high-priority student cases. Serve as a case manager addressing the needs of students in distress. This includes but is not limited to mental health issues, physical health issues, victimization, Title IX issues and processes, life traumas, and any other barriers that may impede a student’s success. Supporting critical student services such as medical leaves of absence, readmission, absence notification, Title IX procedural guidance support, and student records management.

Supervise two case managers and office coordinator. Support training and management efforts to ensure that all procedures, protocols, and best practices are followed. Advise on complex student issues. This includes hiring, training, and managing the Office Coordinator. The Dean of Students Office is a high-traffic office that manages highly sensitive situations. The operations of the office are complex and often involve triage, technology support, and complex coordination.

Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and
procedures including but not limited to outreach and education and campus wellness initiatives.
