The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville, is seeking a Colorectal surgeon at the non-tenure accruing level of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is a tertiary referral center that serves the population of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. It is home to the divisions of General Surgery/Surgical Oncology, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Trauma/Acute Care/Critical Care, and Vascular Surgery. The Department of Surgery is poised for significant growth as we expand the elective surgical practice throughout the Northeast region. The Division of General Surgery/Surgical Oncology has nine faculty members with subspecialties of breast surgery, colon and rectal surgery, hepatopancreaticobiliary/esophageal surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery. The University of Florida is ranked 8th in the top public schools in the nation. UF College of Medicine Jacksonville is the largest of three UF colleges (Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy) on the UF Health Jacksonville campus. UF Health Jacksonville has a 150 year history of serving the community of Jacksonville and is comprised of UF Health Jacksonville, the region’s premier academic health center, a 603 bed tertiary care facility in the downtown area as well as UF Health North, a 92 bed community hospital in a growing region of North Jacksonville. UF Health Jacksonville is the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and is home to the state’s first trauma and flight program.

Jacksonville is a growing city with a beautiful climate that affords year round outside activities such as golf, biking, running, and surfing. It is the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL) and Jumbo Shrimp (Minor League Baseball). Professional golf and tennis tournaments are hosted each year in the surrounding areas. Major college sports are in close proximity, and Jacksonville hosts annually one of the most historic rivalry games in college football, the Florida-Georgia game. Broadway Theater, major concerts, and fine arts pair well with the growing culinary scene.

We are seeking a candidate with broad clinical experience in general/colorectal surgery with a particular interest in complex anorectal disease, oncology, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis and pelvic floor dysfunction. The candidate must be MD or DO, Board Certified/Eligible in General Surgery AND Board Certified/Eligible in Colorectal Surgery with experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the intestines, colon, rectum and anus including minimally invasive approaches of robotic and laparoscopic surgery as well as transanal minimally invasive surgery. Major responsibilities include building a colorectal practice as well as providing education of medical students and residents and participating in research. Candidate will also provide care to general surgical patients, including call. Candidate will join an extremely diverse academic general surgery practice inclusive of growing an advanced GI/MIS, endoscopic, and oncologic program. Salary and academic appointment is negotiable and the benefits are excellent.

This position will report to the Chief of General Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville. Every faculty member in the department will have a mentoring team assigned to them and participate in the department wide faculty development program.

The following is a general description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide and maintain a high level of quality in-patient intermediate care services in all aspects of General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery
  • Provide clinical teaching of trainees in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery and participate in the educational program.
  • Be responsible for excellent communication with primary care physicians.
  • Assist in marketing the General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery Programs to community physicians and managed care organizations.
  • Participate in monthly division meetings, administrative functions and institutional committees as requested.


The University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville is the largest of the three colleges at the Health Science Center Jacksonville. The college is affiliated with UF Health in Jacksonville, a health system comprised of two hospitals — the 603-bed UF Health Jacksonville and 92-bed UF Health North — and more than 60 primary and specialty care practices throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.

The college offers 38 accredited graduate medical education programs and 14 non-standard programs. More than 100 residents and fellows from programs across the U.S. come to UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville to participate in various clinical rotations as well.

In addition to graduate medical education, clinical rotations in all the major disciplines are provided for students from the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville. Third-year medical students enrolled at UF spend about 25 percent of their training at the Jacksonville campus, gaining valuable experience in an urban setting. While third-year rotations are only offered to UF students, elective rotations in the final year of clinical training are available to students from accredited schools in the US and Canada.

For practicing physicians, the college offers a continuing medical education program that recruits national and international speakers who are well known and respected in their fields.

The college's faculty, residents and fellows are active in clinical research. Residents and fellows regularly present their findings at locations across the country and publish their projects in well-known publications. In 2019, the campus received $23.1 million in external research funding, approximately 50% of which was federally sponsored projects.

The campus houses a 16,000-square-foot clinical and translational research facility. To support faculty and resident research, the college has a Center for Data Solutions, offering researchers analytics, epidemiology and biostatistics support, and a Center for Research Training, helping develop the next generation of highly collaborative clinical researchers.

Located in the Northeastern part of the state on the Atlantic Ocean, Jacksonville’s weather is sunny and pleasant. We enjoy an average of 320 days of sunshine each year, yet have the coolest summers in the state.
