The Department of Africology and African American Studies at Temple University seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor capable of teaching courses on African American women, African womanism, mass media, and the Black Family utilizing the Diopian analysis and coherent Afrocentric theoretical foundation.
Temple University is a state-related Carnegie Research University (R1- highest research activity) located in Philadelphia. The College of Liberal Arts is home to 32 undergraduate majors, 32 minors, 23 certificate programs, and 15 graduate degree programs. With its vibrant and diverse array of educational programs, the College of Liberal Arts plays, and its mission mirrors, both the historical importance of the liberal arts in society and the principles on which the university was founded.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree and be able to
teach courses on race and culture, kinship, and gender connections.
We expect the candidate to be familiar with the works of scholars
such as Clenora Hudson-Weems, Audre Lorde, Frances Welsing, Nah
Dove, Alice Walker, Angela Davis, and Margaret Busby. The applicant
should demonstrate an interest in creating a research agenda
consistent with working in a highly-ranked and competitive
department. This position is a part of Temple’s anti-racism
initiative and the preferred person will have an interest in
advancing anti-racism research. Salary is negotiable.
