ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF
APPLIED MATHEMATICS
[TENURE TRACK]
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Mathematics and
Computer Science Department at Whitworth University invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Applied
Mathematics. Candidates must be able to teach a variety of
undergraduate mathematics courses including those specific to
applied mathematics
Mathematics and computer science faculty at Whitworth University operate in a friendly atmosphere that encourages interaction between faculty and students. Instructors are expected to be excited about interacting and working with students from a variety of mathematical backgrounds. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics courses.
PRIMARY TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:
Mathematics professors at Whitworth teach both introductory and
upper division mathematics courses, participate in advising
first-year students through the University-wide first-year advising
program, advise mathematics majors and minors, and collaborate with
students on research projects. They also participate in
departmental activities such as curriculum development, long-range
planning, recruiting, and other activities essential to the
efficient operation of the department. As part of the Whitworth
community faculty take part in university retreats, contribute to
university governance including service on committees and
participating in faculty assemblies, and collaborate across the
disciplines. Faculty are also engaged in their field by
participating in state, regional, and national professional
associations and engaging in scholarly activities.

The Mathematics and Computer Science department at Whitworth

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2021
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The department will consider candidates who have a Ph.D. in applied
mathematics or in mathematics with a focus on applied mathematics.
Individuals who have completed all but their Ph.D. dissertation
(ABD) from an accredited institution or international equivalent
will also be considered. If a candidate is ABD they must have a
solid plan for completion of their dissertation in mathematics or
applied mathematics by August 2021.
