PRIMARY PURPOSE :
To provide instruction to students and develop curriculum in all levels of the Criminal Justice Associates of Applied Arts and Transfer program, assess student learning, provide student advising and serve as the Criminal Justice Program Director by providing program administration, supervision, and curriculum leadership as well as maintaining community partnerships.

Terms of Employment
• Full-time Faculty, 1.0 FTE, Exempt. This is a full-time, tenure-track probationary position commencing September 2021. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• $50,700– $60,000 per year depending on experience.
• Represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
•COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
•The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
• May include travel throughout the College district.

Essential Functions:

ESSENTIAL FACULTY FUNCTIONS :
1. Provide instruction in a broad range of criminal justice classes, using approved course outcome guides.
2. Provide instruction across a broad range of formats and technology. This can include times of the day and days of the week, including early mornings, evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, live, asynchronously online, or hybrid combinations of formats.
3. Connect with students to provide individualized academic advising and assistance in areas of course selection, career planning, job placement and employment follow-up. This will include at least five scheduled office hours per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
4. Participate in program, and program activities, department meetings, curriculum revision, course assessment, program assessment, and program review.
5. Engage in regular professional growth activities, remain current in the field, and maintain current credentials or licensures as required by the program.
6. Participate in service to the college. This may include participating in College committees, taskforces, peer teams, or other activities.
7. Provide meaningful, professional service to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations.
8. Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS :
• Recommend hiring for adjunct and part-time instructors in Criminal Justice.
• Orient and evaluate PT instructors, as needed, for Criminal Justice courses.
• Prepare and propose the Criminal Justice class schedule each term.
• Represent the COCC Criminal Justice program in community outreach and student recruitment settings.
• Act as a departmental liaison for Criminal Justice inquiries from the College and district patrons.
• Participate in Career Technical Education ( CTE ) Council meetings.
• Recruit and collaborate with community partners (advisory committee members) and convene an annual meeting with recorded minutes and/or action items.
• Assist the college in meeting any grant requirements related to the Criminal Justice program.
• Monitor the Criminal Justice program budget.
• Maintain the curriculum and course standards as expected by the department and national standards.
• Review and update the yearly catalog copy and program descriptions; Assist in maintaining program website materials.
• Assess Criminal Justice program/course outcomes regularly and develop strategies for continual improvement.
• Annually review and select textbooks for each of the courses and complete book orders for each term.
• Market the Criminal Justice program and recruit potential students; Take part in school or community open houses or degree fairs.
• Perform other essential duties and tasks, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Thorough knowledge in the field of Criminal Justice and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge. This knowledge is typically found in graduate coursework in Criminal Justice or related field and experience teaching college-level Criminal Justice courses.
2. Demonstrable evidence of excellence in teaching all levels of Criminal Justice typically found at a community college, including CTE and transfer courses. Demonstrable evidence of successful classroom instruction at levels appropriate for this position, and ongoing pursuit of activities designed to improve teaching skills.
3. Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques including the use of technology to enhance student success.
4. Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
5. Ability to work with and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with diverse lived experiences, abilities, and learning styles.
6. Ability to effectively use Microsoft office suite, various course management systems, technology to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses and other technology used in the instruction setting.
7. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.

9. Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and campus locations and formats including live, asynchronously online, or hybrid combinations of formats, as required.

11. Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements for Credit Course:
1. Master’s Degree in the field of Criminal Justice or related discipline from an accredited institution; or a minimum of 30 quarter hours (20 semester hours) of graduate credit in academic courses in the field of the primary teaching assignment.
2. One year of successful College teaching experience in Criminal Justice.

Minimum Requirements for CTE Course:
1. A degree or credential appropriate in the field of primary teaching assignment ( AAS, BS, or MS depending on the program); or instructor has a minimum of 24 quarter (16 semester hours) of graduate credit in academic courses in the field of primary teaching assignment.
2. Relevant experience working in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. or A.B.D. in Criminal Justice or related discipline.
2. Experience with program management and faculty supervision.
3. Two or more years of successful College teaching experience in Criminal Justice.
