Position Function
In collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean, this position will be responsible for developing and executing CSH’s community and digital engagement strategy to promote the image and reputation of the College through events and media.
The Communication Specialist will have a deep understanding of CSH audiences and investors of the College and University and develop communication strategies to engage and inform each audience.
This position will serve as the college’s liaison with relevant university divisions and is responsible for high-impact college specific engagement materials and events for a wide-range of stakeholders including faculty, students, staff, alumni, prospective students, and industry partners.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
One year of communications, event planning or related experience.
Minimum Other
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
Bachelors degree in communications, event planning, public relations or relevant field.
Preferred Experience
Three or more years of communications, event planning or related experience with communication coordination.
Project management experience.
Prior work experience in an academic environment.
Preferred Other
Solid understanding of project management principles.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, includes excellent writing skills with the ability to understand and connect with intended audiences.
Reputable interpersonal skills.
Outstanding planning, organization and time management skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple requests and projects, effectively meeting deadlines.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Digital literacy.
Familiarity with Ball State University.

Develop content, strategy, and messaging across multimedia and event channels to engage the multiple stakeholders (department chairs, faculty, staff, students, alumni, community and professional partners) of the College of Sciences and Humanities.

Acquire, produce and distribute multimedia content (digital and print) that communicate the experiences, successes and impact of the college by conducting interviews, writing narratives, designing graphics and promoting events.

Manage and maintain a digital presence for the college including social media accounts, the college website and blog, and e-newsletters. Develop a media content calendar that strategically promotes brand awareness, college and department accomplishments, and events.

Gather information on, and be familiar with, the success, events, and academic accomplishments of faculty, student or alumni achievements from college departments and appropriately share this information with the administrative units.

Design college print and digital materials to promote the college to students, alumni and donors (e.g., brochures, postcards, display boards, etc.), including activities related to student recruitment and retention.

Serve as a college liaison and initial point of contact to the Marketing and Communications team. As an effective partner in communications, collaborate with M&C team and the Associate Dean in charge of communications to define the college brand, ensure materials reflect the college and university branding and assist with any specialized projects as needed (e.g., Compass Advantage).

Coordinate with college and university administration to engage with the community and alumni by way of outreach efforts, promotional days, crowd funding initiatives and some specialized college events (e.g., Ball State Day at the State House, One Ball State Day, Killey Lecture, Fall Faculty Opening Day, conference booths, and exhibits).
