Clinical Assistant Professor - Community Health Sciences (Job ID #141733)

School of Public Health

University of Illinois at Chicago

Description:

The Division of Community Health Sciences (CHS) in the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health, seeks applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor (non tenure-track) position to begin August 16, 2021. This position will contribute to our graduate programs, primarily but not exclusively, the MPH program. We are particularly interested in candidates who have extensive experience working in or working closely with public health practice settings. Applicants should be well versed in the social and structural determinants of health, especially the manner through which these determinants create and sustain health inequities across the life course. Expertise creating engaging and interactive learning environments is desired, and experience teaching via online learning platforms is preferred.

The candidate will have primary responsibilities for teaching one-two graduate MPH courses from the school or divisional required core courses each year as needed by the department and in the candidate's area of expertise. We are specifically interested in candidates who have expertise and experience in program planning, implementation, and/or evaluation, community health or needs assessments, and/or translating evidence to practice. The candidate will also serve as the instructor of record and Applied Practice Experience (APE) advisor for MPH students in CHS. The APE advisor facilitates the student planning process for appropriate sites and fieldwork projects, engages with site preceptors, approves registration and learning agreements, and determines satisfactory completion of the experience. Additionally, at least in the first two years of the position, the candidate will assume the role of chairperson for the CHS MPH Admissions Committee, providing significant leadership and support for the holistic MPH admissions process. They will work closely with the CHS Assistant Director of Academic Services to administer admissions processes, revise and develop admissions policies as needed, and review applications along with other faculty members of the Committee. The candidate will also support the work of the CHS Doctoral Studies Committee related to PhD admissions.

This clinical assistant professor position is a 9-month salaried appointment with anticipated up to 80 % teaching and 20% administrative responsibilities. However, if the individual has specific research interests, there is potential for 60% teaching, 20% administration, and 20% research. As the APE advisor role includes academic responsibilities during the summer semesters, additional summer salary will be negotiated. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in either public health, community health, psychology, anthropology, public policy, or a related social science. Extensive public health practice experience plus evidence of teaching effectiveness is also required. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience and/or are willing to teach collaboratively. As an institution and division that openly embraces diversity, candidates who can demonstrate a firm commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are strongly encouraged to apply.

All applicants must apply online at jobs.uic.edu/job-board/job-details?jobID=141733 and submit a cover letter, teaching statement, CV, and names of three references by March 8, 2021.
