University of St. Thomas, Minnesota

Executive Vice President and Provost

The University of St. Thomas, Minnesota invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Vice President and Provost. The University seeks an experienced and innovative leader with a distinguished academic and administrative record who will collaborate closely with Dr. Julie Sullivan, the President of St. Thomas, to build upon the university’s outstanding reputation and extend its visibility and reach to a broader national audience.

Inspired by Catholic intellectual tradition, the University of St. Thomas educates students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good. St. Thomas is a comprehensive, student-centered university with a powerful mission and a focus on academic excellence. Its educational distinction relies on outstanding faculty, a vibrant liberal arts foundation for undergraduates, graduate programs that respond to community needs, and an ability to stay relevant in a rapidly changing world.

As the largest private university in the state, St. Thomas serves nearly 10,000 students studying across eight academic colleges and schools. St. Thomas has metropolitan campuses in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Rome and currently offers more than 150 undergraduate majors and minors with opportunities for cross-disciplinary coursework in the liberal arts, and 55+ graduate degree programs, including engineering, business, education, health care and law. St. Thomas emphasizes a values-centered, career-oriented education, connecting students and alumni to the surrounding community through internships, career options, and partnerships.

The Executive Vice President and Provost (“Provost”) will oversee the colleges and schools; and academic-related administrative units, including enrollment management, information technology, and academic budgeting and planning, and play a leading role in St. Thomas’ system of shared governance, in which the university's Board of Trustees, its administration, and its faculty work together to fulfill the university’s mission. In addition, the Provost will serve as an advocate and key leader in implementing and executing the University’s new strategic plan for the campus and in advancing the academic mission and vision of the university. The Provost also will work collaboratively with the deans and the faculty to promote excellence, relevance, and impact in their teaching, scholarship, and outreach activities.

For consideration, the candidate must possess an earned Ph.D. or other terminal degree and a record of scholarship and accomplishment commensurate with appointment as full professor at St. Thomas. The candidate will have had significant experience in higher education administration with a strong financial acumen and demonstrated commitment to driving fundraising success. The Provost will enthusiastically embrace and be articulate about the mission and vision of St. Thomas as a comprehensive Catholic university grounded in the liberal arts. The candidate also will have a demonstrated commitment to and record of support for diversity, equity and inclusion. Finally, the candidate will be creative, forward-thinking, and passionate about social justice and making a positive impact on students, communities, and the world.

While applications and nominations will be accepted until the position is filled, interested parties are encouraged to submit a cover letter and full CV to the address below by March 26, 2021 to assure optimal consideration. The target appointment date is Summer 2021. Nominations and applications will be held in the strictest confidence.
