General summary/purpose:
The Academic Program Manager will report to the Executive Vice Dean and will manage the Academic Program Administrator Team and will be responsible for the strategic and operational excellence of the academic program administration and integration across departments at JHSON. The academic program administrator team works to provide exemplary service to students at every stage of their program and provides support to faculty teaching in these programs. The incumbent will serve as a liaison, advisor, and advocate across the school to establish and manage the flow of information, collaborate in creating a seamless student experience across academic and non-academic activities, internally manage all processes, problem solve, and take full responsibility for all aspects of academic program administration to ensure students’ timely degree progression and graduation. The Academic Program Manager will hire, onboard, train, develop and support all academic program administrators. The Academic Program Manager plays a critical role for overall programs management, budget management, accreditation, and administration. Has responsibility for academic program planning, development and implementation in direct collaboration with the highest level of program leadership. S/he works closely with faculty program directors and other student and faculty-facing staff. S/he will be expected to demonstrate propensity for continuous improvement, integration, relationship management, and reliable judgment in decision-making.


The Academic Program Manager will be the primary contact and have sole ownership for one of the follow programs; MSN, DNP/PhD & Post Doc, DNP (Executive), DNP (AP & Cert) or DNP (CRNA) in addition to managing the Academic Program Administrators as well as have direct oversite and be responsible for overview of all academic programs at SON.


The Academic Program Manager will be expected to contribute toward the creation and longevity of a culture of accountability, trust, thoughtfulness, respect, exceptional work ethic, innovation, and collaboration to deliver on student expectations, stakeholder engagement and support, and contribute toward the mission of the school. The Academic Program Manager will be expected to work onsite due to the nature of this highly relationship-based role.


Key expected outcomes for this role will be: dedicated effort to establish and lead the development and implementation of impactful and seamless student experience; lead a customer-focused team; and collaborations across the school.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

Projects, processes and program management

  • Work with Student Affairs to coordinate activities, processes, programs, etc.
  • Work with other JHSON departments to inform, collaborate, and align an organized, clear, timely and thoughtful student experience.
  • Act as a resource to faculty, staff, students, and administrators to determine the general, academic, financial, and administrative resources required to plan and execute the Academic Affairs mission.
  • Collaborate in carrying out excellence in research, teaching, and practice by strengthening the infrastructure of the academic and non-academic experience.
  • Responsible for integration of processes, standard operating procedures, policies, etc. across the student experience at JHSON.
  • Serve in the capacity of first POC for stakeholders and make decisions on how to collaboratively and timely address needs and improvements.
  • Oversite of programs’ accreditation.
  • Programs’ budget management.

Staff Management

  • Hire, train, develop and support academic program administrators.
  • Coach staff for professional development.
  • Performance management of direct reports.
  • Responsible for direct reports’ evaluations.
  • Manage potential conflict.
  • Empower staff to be ethical, independent, accountable and high value team and organization contributors.
  • Lead through role modeling.

Works closely with program director and faculty on issues related to developing and implementing processes, procedures, policies, and systems for the operation of the MSN, DNP/PhD & Post Doc, DNP (Executive), DNP (AP & Cert) or DNP (CRNA) DNP Nursing Anesthesiology Track.

Manages the Assigned Academic Program and the Academic Administrator Team to:

  • Create the processes for managing database entry, maintenance, and reports and compiling data and statistics for monthly, semester, and yearly reports. Coordinate the development and implementation of student and employer databases.
  • Prepare programmatic handbooks, presentations, letters, and reports.
  • Designed, developed, maintained, and updated program web sites as assigned.
  • Successfully prepared for School of Nursing Accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or accreditation standards.
  • Manage logistics associated with events including venue selection, catering, audio-visual, invitation designs, and budget development, as well as overseeing travel arrangements for faculty and guest lecturers.
  • Coordinate orientation packets and orientation events.
  • Recruit and manage graduate student employees which includes assigning work, setting priorities, directing training, and setting work schedules.
  • Track and analyze trends data, compile data and generate reports related to recruitment, admissions, progression, and graduation
  • Coordinate Calendar of Events; schedule events and communicate important deadlines.
  • Liaise in close cooperation with students, faculty, clinical sites, and vendors to fulfill University initiatives.
  • Responsible for tracking student compliance with licensure, certifications, clinical policies for SON and clinical sites.
  • Represent the program in administrative matters. May include issues pertaining to space, facilities, technology, student information system, classroom support.
  • Compile data, generate substantive reports, and analyze trends, and make recommendations accordingly. Reports can be for department faculty and administration.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • Master's or Ph.D in education or specific field related to program.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in all aspects of academic program administration.
  • Additional experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience.
