Job Description:

The Purchasing Specialist position is a full-time career service position. The Purchasing Specialist will provide specialized, responsible, and comprehensive purchasing services related to designated commodities and services based on needs and requirements of the College; review requisitions and change request forms for accuracy of pricing information, adequacy of descriptive detail, processing priority, and adherence to College Purchasing Procedures. Additionally, the Purchasing Specialist will establish and maintain vendor contacts through telephone, facsimile and written communications, and/or office visits for the purpose of solicitation of price quotations, determination of product/service availabilities, and other information; initiate contact with vendors to check on supply and equipment availability, invoices, purchase orders, and contracts; prepare and maintain vendor database and bidder lists; and work cooperatively with College personnel to determine purchasing specifications, sources, availability, pricing, shipping, and receiving. This position reports to the Director of Purchasing and Auxiliary Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree with major course work in business administration, or related field, and one year full time experience in a purchasing position. Additional college course work in business administration or related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis. OR Graduation from high school or GED and three years’ full time experience in purchasing or related field, and demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, etc.) in a networked office setting, and internet navigation. College coursework in business, accounting, or related field may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

ANNUAL SALARY: $24,150.00 ($12.34/hour)
