Job Description

The Director of Public Safety is responsible for managing the development, maintenance, administration, and evaluation of a comprehensive public safety education program including the Fire Academy, Fire Technology, Wildland Fire, Emergency Medical Services programs and Emergency Management Homeland Security Baccalaureate program. The Director also oversees the operations of the Public Safety facility at the Redfield Campus, fleet and equipment maintenance and contracts, including with the Carson City Fire Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in field related to directing Public Safety programs, such as in Leadership, EMS, Paramedic, Fire Administration or related field

2. Five years combined experience in pre-hospital and/or hospital direct patient care, with academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a Paramedic

3. Field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care

4. Five years of teaching experience in a Public Safety program, such as in EMS, Paramedic, Fire Technology, or Emergency Management and Homeland Security

5. Knowledgeable of the current National EMS Scope of Practice, National EMS Education Standards, and about evidence-informed clinical practice

6. Knowledgeable of methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students

7. Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in field related to directing Public Safety programs, such as in Leadership, EMS, Paramedic, Fire Administration or related field

2. Currently licensed Paramedic in the State of Nevada

3. Current certifications in ACLS, PALS, BCLS and/or ITLS

4. Full time teaching experience at a comprehensive community college

5. Administrative experience at a comprehensive community college

6. Five years of supervisory experience

7. Experience with conflict resolution

Responsibilities:

Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds, and a sensitivity of the needs of first-generation college students.

1. Administer, organize, and supervise all Public Safety educational programs

2. Ensure that all department courses, curricula and programs comply with applicable laws, other federal, State, and NSHE requirements and collective bargaining agreements and applicable programmatic accreditations

3. Direct, supervise, and evaluate faculty in all department areas

4. Ensure fulfillment of students learning outcomes and assessment of all programs

5. Conduct continuous quality review and improvement of all educational programs

6. Engage in long range planning and ongoing development of faculty and programs

7. Develop and manage the Public Safety Department budgets

8. Engage with various vendors for supplies, equipment needs, and requisitions

9. Direct the planning and implementation of class schedules and faculty assignments in accordance with student needs, program outcomes, and NFA/NSHE requirements

10. Maintain and update curriculum design and catalog and web content

11. Engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including but not limited to college administration, faculty, students, regional and non-regional affiliates engaged in student internships, various advisory committees and community partners

12. Lead the cooperative involvement with Accrediting bodies and programmatic oversite and compliance reporting

13. Maintain CAAHEP/CoAEMSP Paramedic Accreditation

14. Oversee training and supervision of clinical and field internship preceptors

15. Maintain effectiveness and quality of fulfillment of responsibilities delegated to another qualified individual

16. Interface and collaborate with internal stakeholders within the college including but not limited to other Allied Health programs and Directors, the Division Dean, and the leaders of Academics, Finance & Administration, and Admissions & Records

17. Develop, negotiate, and oversee affiliation agreements and contracts with external organizations for the benefit of the program.

18. Understand and accept the role to be played as a partner in an educational enterprise serving the best interests of the students

19. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.

20. Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information:

Minimum $88,686. Placement is dependent on education and experience. Salaries are subject to any related directives from the Board of Regents and Nevada Legislature.
