Assistant/Associate Professor of Educational Leadership
The Coastal Carolina University Spadoni College invites applications for the full-time tenure-track position in Educational Leadership, beginning August 2021. This position is a nine-month appointment, with the potential of summer teaching.
Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach. The Spadoni College is a CAEP accredited institution. More than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are currently majoring in education programs at Coastal Carolina University. The Spadoni College offers undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, middle level education, physical education, and special education. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary Education degree with concentrations in English, social studies, mathematics, and science; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Educational Leadership; Master of Education and Educational Specialists degrees in Instructional Technology, Master of Education in Special Education, Master of Education in Language, Literacy, and Culture, and an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Education.
The Spadoni College offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership. In addition, the college also offers a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education degree in three (3) specialization areas in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. These educational leadership programs are designed to provide advanced professional studies and graduate-level coursework for candidates who are interested in becoming principals, superintendents, or district-level leaders, who are committed to excellence in student success. Candidates will develop into well-qualified professionals as they further their knowledge of the functions of a high-achieving school in areas such as curriculum, instruction, management, personnel, finance, school law, public relations, and the many facets of student achievement. Candidates of the programs will learn to apply the theories and skills learned in the classroom to real situations. As part of the M.Ed. and Ed.S. programs, candidates are provided clinical experiences opportunity to work with P-12 teachers, students, and principals, and district-level leaders related to meeting the demands of school and district-level leadership. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with the program coordinator and other program faculty to: actively participate in established and new program curriculum and assessments development, implementation, and analysis; provide advisement and mentorship to students; participate in program, departmental, college, and university governance; represent the program with external constituencies; provide assistance with the recruitment and retention of students; and engage in relevant professional activities and scholarship.
- Earned Ph.D./Ed.D. degree in Educational Administration or Educational Leadership or a closely related discipline with a strong content background in educational administration. ABD candidates may be considered, dependent upon the projected date that the terminal degree will be conferred;
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a P-12 school-based and/or district office administrator;
- Evidence of or potential for successful scholarship, research, teaching, mentoring, advising, and practice that provides access, equity, education quality and learning of historically marginalized and underrepresented P-12 students, university level students, educators, and leaders;
- Evidence or the potential for successful research and scholarly productivity, including external grant funding for research;
- Demonstrates excellence in interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and analytic skills;
- Experience and/or scholarship in the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods research;
- Experience or evidence of potential to support candidates through the Dissertation process, by serving as a committee member and/or committee chair on graduate student dissertation committees;
- Demonstrates potential to collaboratively work with multiple stakeholders, such as area P-12 school districts, to build meaningful partnerships within a diverse environment; and
- Ability to teach in person, online or in hybrid formats.
- Experience in teaching courses in Educational Leadership at the graduate level;
- Experience with online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous methodologies);
- Experience with program assessment and national accreditation (National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA)/Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC)/National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Standards);
- Expertise in multiple statistical software programs (e.g., R, SAS, STATA, SPSS);
- Expertise in qualitative software programs (e.g., Dedoose, NVivo)
- Experience or evidence of potential to serve as a methodologist on graduate student dissertation committees;
- Experience with online instruction (synchronous and asynchronous methodologies); and/or
- Successful experience as a Superintendent and/or district office administrator.
