Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology with focus in gynecological radiation oncology, women’s cancer, and brachytherapy.  The successful candidate will be expected to engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of women’s cancer.  Clinical duties will primarily be in the area of gynecologic radiation therapy and brachytherapy services.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to clinical program growth as well as educational, scientific and outreach efforts relating to these programs.

The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington on the clinician-educator pathway as an Associate or Full Professor WOT with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021.  This position has an annual service period (July 1 - June 30).  This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months.  We have one position that is open to Assistant to Full Professors; due to institutional requirements, we have separate posting for Assistant Professors and can be submitted here.  Appointment rank will commensurate with experience and qualifications.

UW Medicine and its partner institutions provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for women’s cancer patients, including all aspects of gynecologic HDR brachytherapy and a fully equipped brachytherapy Suite.  Ample availability of functional imaging and close collaboration with Radiology (including joint faculty) enable outstanding advanced clinical imaging capabilities for women’s cancer patients as well as active imaging-based research.  Additional technical capabilities of the Department include 7 Elekta linear accelerators, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT capability, Gammaknife radiosurgery with the Perfexion ICON system for multi-fraction SRT; 4 CT simulators, direct access to MRI and PET/CT based planning; Pinnacle, CMS, Raystation, in-house planning systems, MIM platforms in both Radiation Oncology and Radiology, LDR brachytherapy, IORT, intravascular brachytherapy, respiratory gating, C-RAD and Calypso beacon localization. Proton Therapy and an active Neutron Therapy program further broaden the technical capabilities and therapy options.

Department Overview:

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy.  Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several imaging research laboratories.  The Department has 28 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 22 physics and 3 research faculty, who engage in active multi-disciplinary clinical and basic research.  Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. A strong interest and commitment in research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams.

The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The successful applicant must have experience and expertise in gynecologic cancer.
