Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Success in the College of Arts and Sciences, this position supervises, monitors and manages all administration and operations for academic and career advising for students in CAS and Maxwell. Responsibilities include: employing metrics and data analysis to develop and implement practical solutions to complex problems related to academic advising; understanding and communicating the needs of advising center staff and students to the administration for the improvement of academic advising; and facilitating the exchange of academic advising information between students, faculty, and administrators.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.

• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in academic operations and project management and demonstrated successful outcomes through measures such as: improved efficiencies, cost reduction, and experience as a process change agent in advising and student services.

• Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, dynamic interpersonal talents, evidence of genuine interest in students and how they progress through college and the ability to work as a member of a team are all essential qualities.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot situations.

• Leadership qualities to provide a smooth-running work environment that generates positive energy and teamwork among employees for the good of the whole.

• Ability to work in a team environment as both a leader and contributor are required.

• Experience with complex data mining and analysis.

• Ability to adapt to changes in the academic advising industry and quickly make adjustments to operations as needed.

• Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a diverse faculty, staff and student population while representing the academic and career advising team in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean for Student Success and appropriate members of the leadership team throughout the College, the Maxwell School, and within the advising and academic departments to ensure best practices in academic and career advising.

• Creates and maintains training materials and trains members of the College advising team on all new software and reporting processes.

• Identifies areas of weakness or need for improvements then builds and implements solutions that align with central processes and strategies while positioning professional advising staff to work with Faculty advisors to support student’s needs.

• Performs process improvement and efficiency analysis to provide exceptional service, identifies opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings, and implements improvements to benefit the student experience.

• Conducts student population reviews to inform strategic approaches to advising.

• Serves as the primary project manager for all process review and change implementation.

• Tracks, measures, reports, and presents on operational excellence and outcomes to ensure the unit is meeting commitments.

• Compiles reports, such as annual, periodic progress, and project evaluation reports, and make recommendations to the Assistant Dean of Student Success as necessary.

• Responsible for Software project development from ideation through to implementation.

• Collaborates closely with the Registrar’s Office and the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience to implement and optimize the use of existing technologies such as Orange Success and Degree Works.

• Serves as primary project manager for all new advising-related system implementation with central university units.
