The Mathematical Sciences Department at Lycoming College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in Statistics with a starting date of August, 2021. A Ph.D. in Statistics is required, though ABDs who will complete their Ph.D. prior to August, 2021 are welcome to apply.  Prior experience teaching statistics to undergraduate students is strongly preferred.  About 2/3 of the successful candidate’s teaching load will be introduction to statistics, a course for social science majors.  The successful candidate will be expected to take co-ownership of this course and will work with members of the social sciences departments to structure this course to meet the needs of students in these majors. While not required, we are especially interested in candidates who are willing and able to teach real analysis in support of the math major as well as candidates that have an interest in contributing to Lycoming College’s interdisciplinary actuarial science major.  Lycoming has an active first year seminar program, and the desire to develop and teach a first-year seminar is a strong plus.   In addition all math faculty regularly teach a rotating special topics capstone course in their own area of interest.

Lycoming College is a small liberal arts college committed exclusively to the education of undergraduate students. The general teaching load is 3 courses per semester.  Highly effective teaching is the top priority of all faculty and innovative approaches to teaching are welcome.  Professional achievement (broadly defined, but resulting in peer-reviewed work) and service to the department, college and community are also required for tenure and promotion.  To apply, please submit a cover letter addressing your interest in teaching statistics at a liberal arts college, a current CV and a statement of teaching philosophy.  In addition, please arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation, at least two of which address teaching, to be sent on your behalf.  Letters may be sent electronically to jobs@lycoming.edu or hard copies may be sent to:
