Job Summary

The Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the president of a campus which is responsible for fostering and sustaining a One College academic culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and excellence in teaching and learning. Participates in teaching and learning policy and program review and recommends changes. Supports the College’s 3 Goals and 8 Principles implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serves as the chief academic officer for the campus; advises the president on academic and student services matters
• Understands student services in collaboration with academics
• Works in coordination with the campus president and other vice presidents to bring about measurable improvements in key performance indicators for learning and student success
• Understands the academic advising process
• Provides leadership for divisional dean, assistant divisional deans, and others in assessing and responding to enrollment trends and issues, including implementation of strategies to improve student access, engagement and success
• Leads student services to establish and manage enrollment strategies to ensure student success to fulfill College goals
• Provides leadership for all academic programs which include economic, work force development, and continuing education programs
• Assesses the needs to ensure that appropriate training programs and classes are provided to meet the community’s need for economic and work force development, occupational skills and adult basic education
• Collaboratively leads, supports, and participates in the Curriculum & Instruction and Program Review processes to review course and program development work
• Oversees hiring and personnel evaluation processes for campus Academic Affairs and Student Services, and advises on personnel matters; recommends appropriate staffing and budget plans to ensure excellence and consistency of service among the campuses
• Provides leadership in the implementation of schedule optimization focused on student needs
• Assigns appropriate teaching spaces/modalities for all disciplines virtually and/or on-campus
• Oversees dual enrollment and/or early college high school programs; works collaboratively with high school administrators
• Works with student academic issues and strives for consistent interpretation of the College’s policies related to students
• Works with student services and provide interpretation and guidance of the College’s policies related to student services
• Participates in the College’s strategic planning process and provides leadership for the implementation of the College’s strategic planning goals in the areas of teaching and learning to include budget development for areas of leadership, systematic assessment of student progress and learning outcomes, and program change to maintain relevance of programs and to meet student and community needs
• Promotes a spirit of collegiality among instructional departments and other division of within the Campus and across the College
• Actively participates in community-related organizations/associations
• Prepares reports, charts, diagrams, and statistics for academic and technical areas
• Serves on the College’s Academic Council and other work teams of the district
• Serves on the Student Services Leadership Council
• Serves as liaison officer with accrediting agencies
• Participates on College committees and in activities of faculty committees
• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
• Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
• Supports the mission, values, and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Three (3) years full-time teaching experience in a credit curriculum at the post-secondary level
• Five (5) years of experience as an academic administrator at the department/division chair level or above in a community college and/or university setting; one (1) year as a student service administrator at comparable levels may be included
• Experience with learning management systems ( LMS ), computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures

• Five (5) years full-time teaching experience in a credit curriculum at the post-secondary level
• An understanding and commitment to the open access policy and philosophy of the comprehensive community college
• The demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse urban workplace
• Demonstrated experience with student services
• Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, strong fiscal management linking resource allocation to planning and priorities (including data-driven decision-making) and leading the ongoing efforts of the college to meet accreditation standards
• Demonstrated advocacy for and addressing the needs of the under-prepared student
• Demonstrated experience in both academic and Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) programs and services
• Demonstrated experience with academic advising
• Experience, confidence, leadership, and diplomacy to interact with all levels of college operations, partners in business, industry, education, and local and state government leaders as appropriate
• Demonstrated support for faculty and staff development
• Experience creating collaborative partnerships with business, industry, and education partners to meet the community’s employment needs
• Proficient with data, technology, and knowledge of data analytics
• Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve, and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented
