The UAFS campus is comprised of 77 buildings and facilities located on 170 beautifully manicured acres and crowned with the Donald W. Reynolds Campus Plaza, Tower, and Campus Green. Students who choose to live on campus may do so in one of two residence hall complexes, complete with a full-service dining center, or the on-campus apartment complex for married students and upperclassmen. Campus involvement is encouraged by participation in more than 100 registered student organizations, which includes academic societies, a dynamic Greek life system, intramural sports, and cultural/special interest groups. The UAFS Lions compete in NCAA Division II Lonestar Conference in men’s baseball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, golf, cross country, and tennis.

About the College / Department Position Summary

Responsible for teaching classes in acting and directing. Direct and coach mainstage productions each semester. This is a 9-month appointment. The position reports to the Department Head of Communication and Theatre Arts.

Summary of Job Duties

•Teach acting and directing courses, and other courses as qualified and needed.
•Direct mainstage productions each semester.
•Conduct and maintain scholarly/creative activity appropriate to the discipline.
•Maintain an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas, and critical thinking.
•Advise, assess, and mentor students in the Theatre program.
•Assist with curriculum planning and assessment.
•Employ culturally responsive teaching pedagogies and approaches.
•Recruit and retain students in the program.
•Assist with facility and equipment management and maintenance.
•Develop external relationships with community and professionals in the field.
•Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
•Service to Department, college, and University, including committee service.
•Attendance and participation in all faculty and administrative meetings, Student Research Symposium, commencement ceremonies, and other meetings/events as required.
•Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates.
•Requires consistent on-time attendance.
•Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

•MFA in Acting or Directing.
•Professional acting and/or directing experience.

Special Job Dimensions

Work environment is varied, including work in classrooms, theatres, and shop spaces. Some travel required. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee should be able to make good visual and auditory critiques of student work. Employee should be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Work Schedule

Extensive night and weekend work requires someone with an open and flexible schedule. Some travel required.

This is a 9-month position.
