University of Mary Hardin Baylor's College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks qualified faculty to serve as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Operations/Technical Director for the university's Performing Arts Center. This position is available for initial hire on a mutually agreeable date beginning January 4, 2021, but no later than June 1, 2021. This is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty contract position, reporting directly to the Dean of the College. This position will participate actively in the college community, as well as work cooperatively with local fine arts groups.

The Department of Music offers the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music in Church Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Bachelor of Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Music Business.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.

Specific Responsibilities:

Teaching responsibilities include: courses in the music business program. The typical teaching load for this position will be 9-12 load credit hours per academic year. Summer teaching, if any, will be paid separately.

Performing Arts Center Director responsibilities include: overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations, usage, scheduling and maintenance of the university's Performing Arts Center. Supervises PAC staff. Supervises assigned operating budgets. Oversees the PAC Safety Program, in collaboration with the university's safety administrators. Provides job-specific theater safety training. Assures that all scheduled events are well coordinated. Assures proper staffing and coordination with other departments for needed services for events.

Technical Director responsibilities include: overseeing the technical aspects of the PAC's assorted performance productions (approximately 20 UMHB ensemble and guest artist concerts, 12 student recitals, and 1 musical theatre production per semester). Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates sound systems for university productions and projects. In collaboration with the performance director, facilitates lighting, and set design and construction for university productions and projects. Determines the necessary technical supports necessary for university events and performances in advance of production dates. Supervises set and stage construction and management.
Qualifications: A Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field, with at least 18 graduate hours in music, is required. Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be an active, and committed Christian.
