Job Description

The Associate Director of the MU News Bureau works to elevate the university’s prestige by managing staff writers who promote research and other stories internally and through the national media, assists the Director with crisis and issues management, covers certain “beats” of the university in order to identify newsworthy work to promote, is a primary contact for certain media, and serves as liaison between media and selected areas of the university. The Associate Director also is responsible for representing the News Bureau and the Division of Strategic Communications & Marketing across the university and with certain external groups.

Salary

Salary Range: $80,000 -$90,000

GGS Grade: 12

Shift

Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

40 hours/week, some evening and weekend responsibilities are required

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

10 or more years of experience in a news or public relations field, and significant experience working with or for the media is preferred, including experience with crisis communications.
