Position: Annually contracted faculty position for Digital Media Technology Program in the School of Technology


Responsibilities: The EIU School of Technology is searching for an annually contracted faculty member for the BS in Digital Media Technology with one or more of two main areas of expertise: Game Development or Web Development. Selected candidate(s) will teach courses in the core area of the program and in the designated focus area as required, depending on qualifications, as follows:


Game Development courses include Introduction to Game Development, Mobile Game Development, VR/AR Game Development, and Game Programming. Classes include content such as game prototyping, basic asset creation and assembly, object-oriented programming (C++, C#, JAVA), mobile device testing, Virtual Reality experience creation, final debugging and publishing. Proficiency in teaching with Unity and Unreal Engine is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) and Autodesk (Maya and 3DS Max) is a plus.


Web development courses include Front End Web Development, Search Engine Optimization, Web Content Management Systems, and Emerging Web Technologies. Classes include areas such as prototyping, web project management techniques, UI/UX design, HTML5/CSS3/JS, jQuery, SASS, AngularJS, and integration of multimedia in various projects. Proficiency in teaching with web development software tools (Dreamweaver, Brackets, Sublime Text) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) is required. Experience teaching advanced web programming PHP MySQL, and/or Ruby on Rails is a plus.


Starting Date: August 16, 2021


Qualifications: Master's degree or MFA in Animation, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, Technology, Web Development, Game Design, Computer and Information Sciences or similar field from a nationally accredited university is required. Professional experience in game development, web development, technical management, or an academic environment is preferred. Doctorate or ABD is preferred. The successful candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills and outstanding teaching abilities. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence is required.

As a primarily undergraduate teaching institution, EIU is dedicated to quality learning in small classroom settings. The Digital Media Technology program is housed within the School of Technology. This faculty will be appointed as a member in the School of Technology, which seeks a highly-motivated team player to assist the continued growth of the Digital Media Technology program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction to students in the Digital Media Technology program. A typical workload per semester will include teaching 3-4 courses in a classroom/laboratory environment. The selected candidate will also serve on students’ capstone project committees as needed. In addition, mentoring undergraduate students in digital media research, and contributing to the program assessment process are expected.
