The Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering (CEOE) of the Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science (SES) at Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens) invites applications and nominations for a faculty position at the full professor rank for the Nariman Farvardin Chair in Civil Engineering in one of the following research fields: construction and transportation engineering and management, geotechnical and structural engineering, advanced construction materials and technologies, urban/interconnected infrastructure systems, computational methods and algorithms, artificial intelligence or machine learning in civil engineering applications.

CEOE seeks exceptional candidates who hold a Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related field, have an internationally recognized record of scholarship and funded research programs, demonstrated ability to develop new research programs and are committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and involvement in service to the university and profession. The expected starting date is August 16, 2021 or later.

The Farvardin Chair will join a cadre of committed faculty (16 tenured and tenure track, 5 research and 4 teaching) who are engaged in high-activity research and teaching programs with 250 undergraduate, 250 master’s and 52 Ph.D. students. CEOE is home to the Davidson Laboratory and Center for Environmental Systems. Facilities at the Davidson laboratory include a towing tank with the highest towing speed in the world and wave generation capabilities, and field and advanced computational facilities to support a fully-automated, ensemble-based flood advisory system. With a funding level of about $2.5M per year, the Davidson Laboratory integrates and supports programs in the fields of naval architecture, coastal and ocean engineering, physical oceanography, marine hydrodynamics and maritime systems. With yearly research expenditures of about $3.5M, the Center for Environmental Systems is dedicated to basic and applied interdisciplinary research aimed at creating new knowledge, advanced technology, and innovative management practices and solutions for sustainable utilization of environmental resources. The Nariman Farvardin Chair is expected to lead the development of a commensurate program in their research field.
