JOB PURPOSE:    The Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Hydrology at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates may be considered for the position at the Associate Professor level. We seek a candidate with the interest and ability to develop and sustain a successful research program. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefitted position, funded by the Tier-1 Engineering Initiative.  

We seek a hydrologist/hydrologic engineer in broad areas of hydrology, hydraulics and water resources and especially encourage candidates with experience in field work to apply.  As a member of the faculty of the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, the successful candidate may collaborate with members of the Wyoming Center for Environmental Hydrology and Geophysics (http://www.uwyo.edu/epscor/wycehg/) and may provide academic support to the PhD program in Water Resources, Environmental Science and Engineering (http://www.uwyo.edu/wrese/). UW faculty have access to world-class computational resources as described at: https://arcc.uwyo.edu/.  The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering includes 22 faculty members and serves approximately 440 students. At the undergraduate level we have ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering, plus a new B.S. degree in Construction Management, and a Certificate in Cadastral Surveying. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Scholarship: Develop an impactful research program in Hydrology which creates new knowledge oriented to societal and ecological problems. A successful research program is characterized by: externally-funded projects, refereed publications, recruitment and supervision of graduate students, national and international presentations. Collaborative and interdisciplinary research is welcome.
  • Teaching: Provide quality instruction in Civil Engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels using both on campus and distance modalities.
  • Service: Participate in Department, College and University governance, including curriculum oversight and ABET accreditation activities for Civil & Architectural Engineering.

Assistant professors shall normally hold the terminal qualification in their discipline (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., MFA, etc.), and shall have demonstrated ability, through appropriate experience, to perform the functions of the position they are to hold.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

A Doctoral Degree is required for this position, however, consideration will be given to applicants that are currently pursuing their Doctoral Degree and will complete the degree prior to starting work.

  • Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline with a research emphasis in Hydrology.
  • Ability to teach courses in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources engineering.

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and use of innovative teaching methods.
  • Registration as a professional engineer.
