Director of Upward Bound
The Upward Bound program at Marist College seeks a full-time Director to oversee the operations of Upward Bound, and maintain responsibility for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the program goals, objectives, and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
and at least five years related experience required. Knowledge of
and experience working with College students in a field closely
related to the objectives of Upward Bound required. Candidates who
offer experience working with populations from diverse ethnic,
racial and/or socioeconomic backgrounds preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise all program staff; prepare performance appraisals and recommend development as necessary
- Collaborate with Human Resources for the hiring, appointment, contracts, compensation, and termination of seasonal support staff
- Promote the objectives and activities of the Upward Bound program through coordination with parents, the College, and local, regional, and national program service networks
- Formulate, publish, coordinate, and administer all program services, meetings, and business functions, as well as procedures and standards of instruction and counseling for the program; monitor student, faculty and administrative conduct as necessary
- Plan and recommend budget proposals to appropriate parties; manage and administer approved budgets within the program in accordance with all standards and procedures
- Administer federal grants and private funding in accordance with EDGAR and other governing guidelines
- Develop supplementary sources of funding and services for the program
- Supervise the design, implementation, and evaluation of the core curriculum, instruction and counseling
- Oversee the identification and recruitment of program participants, and the coordination and implementation of formative evaluations, diagnostic placements, and tutorial, vocational, academic and cultural activities
- Monitor procedures to recruit, counsel, enroll, and follow-up with program participants in postsecondary education programs
- Prepare and submit Upward Bound grant proposal and associated project reports
Preferred
Qualifications:
Preference will be
given to candidates who offer a Bachelor’s degree in education,
counseling, social work, business, psychology, or a Master’s Degree
in a relevant area of study.

The Marist Upward Bound Program was founded in 1966. It is a federally funded college preparatory program designed to generate in participants the skills and motivation necessary to persist in completing their secondary education and enter and complete a program of postsecondary education.
