Position Purpose

Phillips Exeter Academy seeks an Assistant Director of Admissions to join a highly experienced team of 20 enrollment management professionals. The Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting the Academy’s mission of enrolling highly talented youth from every quarter and will share responsibility for off-campus recruitment, interviewing and the review of applicants to the Academy in addition to other efforts related to candidate engagement throughout the admission season. As a member of the Admissions Team, the Assistant Director will also be engaged in the residential and co-curricular programs as needed.

Key Accountabilities

Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Interviewing prospective students and their parents/guardians.
  • Conducting 3-4 weeks of off-campus domestic travel (pandemic conditions permitting) with a focus on developing and maintaining key educational partnerships with schools, educational programs and other student-facing organizations.
  • Hosting off-campus regional admission receptions and providing information in a presentation format to large groups of prospective families.
  • Serving on the admissions selection committee.
  • Actively participates in the residential experience, which may include dormitory responsibilities, academic advising, coaching and/or similar duties.

Incumbent is expected to work with a high level of independence and autonomy, and exercise a high degree of initiative, influence, and judgment in decisions impacting staff and department operations.

Internal & External Contacts

Frequent contact with students, Dean of Students office, PEA administrative and academic offices, faculty, coaches, and staff. External contacts may include parents, outside organizations, visitors and local community neighbors.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.


Experience

  • 1-3 years of progressively increasing responsibilities in a highly selective secondary and/or collegiate enrollment management position.
  • Experience with the SLATE database platform is desired but not required.
