Visiting Instructor of Art - Photography emphasis

Position Announcement

The Department of Art at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, invites applicants for a full-time, two-year position as Visiting Instructor of Art (specializing in Photography) for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years. This position is well suited for an artist who wishes to prepare for a career of teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution that emphasizes excellence in teaching and research.

Responsibilities

• Teach 30 credit hours of lower-division studio courses in photography and art foundations each academic year. Opportunities for curriculum development are also available.
• Perform campus-wide faculty duties, including:
  1. Holding office hours.
  2. Attendance at department, division, and other administrative unit meetings.
  3. Work with other faculty in program management.
  4. Adherence to university policies.
  5. Oversee maintenance and operation of the art dept. dark room (including ordering supplies for classes and instructors).

Qualifications

• Terminal Degree (MFA) in Art or closely related discipline from an accredited college or university required. Preference will be given to those applicants who were recently awarded (within the last two years) or are about to earn their terminal degree.
• Professional experience in 2D art, digital art, photography, or related field preferred.
• Evidence of potential for successful teaching at the college level.
• Strong current national exhibition record.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work with and assist part-time photography instructors.
• An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience for our students.
• Experience with computer generated graphics (3D and 2D) a plus.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2021, with pay & benefits starting July 1, 2021. Annual salary of $40,000 - $42,000, depending on qualifications & experience; additional compensation available for summer/overload teaching.
