Job Description Summary

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in law, political science, public administration, business administration, or related field.
- Must be able to attain Special Police Officer certification for the State of Maryland upon hire or within six months of hire.
- Six years of management experience in law enforcement, security, public safety or closely related field preferred.
- A minimum of two years’ experience required.
- Must have supervised personnel at the command level and managed programs directly related to this professional area for at least 2 years.

- Develops, approves, and enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the successful accomplishment of College Police activities. Prepares manuals, special orders and directives to staff to ensure operational integrity and govern officer conduct.
- Manages all sworn police officers and civilian employees assigned to the College Police.
- Ensures that members of the College Police and the College community adhere to federal and state laws, county ordinances and college rules and regulations.
- Provide for the maintenance of police patrols to deter and detect crime, and administer the college’s traffic enforcement regulations.
- Directs the deployment and scheduling of personnel to provide safety and security for all special events all College locations.
- Manages the collection and dissemination of police records in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Oversees the system for documentation of police incidents and crime occurring on College locations, and ensure compliance with federal reporting regulations such as the Student Right to Know and College Awareness Act (Clery) Act 1990.
- Develop goals and objectives for the College Police.
- Establishes effective crime prevention programs in which the college community is educated to protect life and property, and take appropriate steps to identify and eliminate hazards and potential opportunities for crime.
- Recruits, interviews and screens applicants for commissioned, noncommissioned vacancies.
- Maintains and develops open lines of communication with college departments and student organizations to promote and improve safety and security programs.
- Coordinates working relationships with the Vice President for Student Affairs or designee concerning the student judicial process and discipline proceedings.
- Works with the Director of Emergency Preparedness and supports emergency preparedness initiatives as requested.
- Directs and supervises police activities during routine and emergency situations.
- Initiates and conducts confidential internal criminal and administrative investigations as required.
- Determines staff training needs and schedule training sessions for the department with the approval of the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission.
- Prepares factual material for presentation and submit written reports as required.
- Authorizes and monitors departmental expenditures in accordance with budget and financial guidelines.
- Coordinates with the Vice President for Enterprise Technology or their designee, the use of technology as a part of an integrated crime prevention and security program.
- Performs related work as required.
Job Requirements
- Must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
- As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
