Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - Marriage & Family Therapy (Clinical Director)

Summary:
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University invites qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of marriage and family therapy starting August 2021. Appointee will serve as Clinical Director for the MFT program.

Workload expectations will be comprised of teaching (80%), research (10%), and institutional service (10%). The position carries a teaching load of 24 credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, typically 12 credits per semester (4/4). Additional instruction, supervision, and service to the program will be requested during summer semesters to support students in clinical placements. The appointee will design and teach MFT graduate courses, and other courses as the department requires. Instruction may be face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats as assigned.

The Clinical Director position is an opportunity to play an essential leadership role in a developing program. The appointee will collaborate in developing and establishing activities, processes, resources, and policies that support student development of clinical knowledge and skill, and program achievement of outcomes and goals. The appointee will create a student-oriented approach to knowledge and experiential aspects of the program; plan, develop, follow, and improve/update an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught; prepare, maintain and improve instructional and practicum materials; supervise individuals and groups in practicum classes; evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests; assist in recruitment, advisement, and off-campus clinical placement of students; recommend students for advancement and graduation; maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance, specifically as they relate to hour accrual, and site and supervisor approval; establish and maintain office hours and advise students as needed; assist advisor, program director, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program, serve on committees, and attend meetings as required. The appointee will develop relationships with local mental health placements, evaluate agencies for approval, conduct site visits, communicate with local supervisors about student evaluations and hours; coordinate with the UVU clinic regarding case management and case assignment to students; attend university-wide clinical director meetings and collaborate with field directors in other clinical programs regarding best practices at UVU. The appointee will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and college/school, and collective interest of its staff and student body; and seek to fulfill the missions of the MFT program and Utah Valley University.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy or a doctorate from an accredited institution in a related discipline, AND an awarded license in MFT with a minimum of two years post-masters clinical experience, AND experience teaching at a post-secondary education institution as indicated on the curriculum vitae.

Candidate must be AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor candidate.

Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Ability to teach two of the following: Systemic Assessment and Diagnosis, Research Methods, Ethics, Couple, Group, Individual, or Family Therapy, Early Development, Adult Development. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with the mission of a teaching university


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Candidate must be AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor candidate.
• Knowledge of subject matter and course content in marriage & family therapy graduate courses and other family sciences courses.
• Knowledge of COAMFTE accreditation and AAMFT clinical practice.
• Knowledge of the principles and methodology of teaching techniques.
• Knowledge of on-line and hybrid course design and instruction.
• Knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management systems.
• Skill in teaching, demonstrated through effective instructional strategies and classroom techniques.
• Skill in maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Skill in time and record management and organization.
• Able to maintain scholastic currency, preferably evidenced by publications presentations and the promise of future scholarly productivity.
• Ability to instruct and motivate students, manage classroom procedures, and evaluate student learning.
• Ability to apply research principles while engaging students.
• Ability to develop or adapt new course curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Excellent community relations skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a faculty member or administrator in a marriage and family therapy program. Experience teaching or learning in an online or hybrid environment.


Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, sitting, and walking; continuous ability to see, hear, and speak; Able to lift up to 10 pounds; frequent fine hand manipulation as associated with the use of a computer.
Most work is performed in a normal classroom and office environment. Involves moving around campus. Appointees must have the mental and physical ability to perform the tasks associated with the position with or without accommodations.
