Job Description:
The Department of Accounting & Business Law in the College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, probationary faculty position. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate accounting courses (which might include asynchronous and synchronous online courses). Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, contributing to student growth and development (e.g., involvement with student organizations and activities, advising/mentoring), professional and/or scholarly engagement, collaboration with business and industry partners, continuing professional education and preparation, and service to the department, college, university and region.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)


Required Qualifications:
  • A master’s Degree in accounting, or closely related discipline. (Conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching.
  • Relevant and substantial professional experience in accounting.
  • Related professional licenses or certification and professional engagement.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in higher education environment, including teaching methods incorporating technology.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in serving as a faculty advisor to student groups.


Other Requirements:
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

Accounting and Business Law

The Department of Accounting and Business Law has over 300 students enrolled in its Bachelor of Science in Accounting program and over 30 students in the Master of Accounting program. Graduates of the Accounting Program consistently exceed the national average of first-time pass rate on the uniform CPA examination. Graduates are actively recruited by the Big Four and all regional public accounting firms. In recent years, the Accounting and Business Law Department has produced two Elijah Watt Sells recipients and is among the largest accounting programs in the region.
