Job Description Summary:
The University of La Verne's LaFetra College of Education (LFCE) is inviting applications for a full-time 10-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Educational Counseling & School Psychology (Lead Regional Faculty). We seek a dynamic, creative, scholar-practitioner whose experience focuses on culturally sustaining educational counseling practices and advancing diversity, access, and social justice in education and society.
The Educational Counseling Program emphasizes school counselor training, with concentrations in a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (California), School and Family Based Counseling (LPCC license-eligibility), Spanish Bilingual Bicultural Certification (certificate or concentration), and College Counseling. The Educational Counseling Program is seeking a candidate with a strong emphasis in diversity, social justice, and advocacy and knowledge in the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model, the ASCA and American Counseling Association (ACA) Ethics Codes, and comprehensive knowledge of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences LPCC licensure process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the academic experiences of Educational Counseling and School Psychology students at our Bakersfield campus as the Lead Regional Faculty Member. The faculty member will teach courses in the Educational Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) program. Faculty are expected to maintain an active research program, as well as advising duties and committee assignments. Performs all duties and maintains all standards by college policies, procedures, and Core Values. Responsibilities include:
- Teach three courses per semester in the Educational Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) program, including teaching at a regional campus in Bakersfield, CA.
- Develop and maintain relationships with PK-16 districts.
- Participate in oversight of state credentialing (CCTC) requirements for the Educational Counseling and PPS program, as well as university program reviews.
- Implementation of the Program and College Missions, and the University’s Mission and Strategic Vision.
- Service on college and university committees and other duties as assigned. Attendance at university, college, department, and program meetings; service on university or college committees as appointed by Dean and/or program chair.
- Student Centered Duties and Responsibilities include: Interview applicants and administer writing assessments, serve as faculty advisor and point-of-contact for students regarding program policies and procedures, service cohorts through classroom visitations, maintaining office hours, and scheduling appointments as needed. Faculty coordination responsibilities.
- Potential for this candidate to assume various leadership roles within the program as assigned by the program chair, including leadership of academic advisement of program students.
- Maintain an active research program and publication record per the discipline and University Faculty Handbook requirements.
- Plans develops and uses effective teaching methods, technologies, and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives. They are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles and engage them in learning.
- Reviews evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through an evaluation process of self-reflection.
- Contribute to advancing the program’s goals, college, and university, including focusing on student achievement, supporting diversity, and fostering community engagement.
- Participates in department or college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention.
- Participates in activities required to maintain program accreditation standards and professional organizations (as appropriate).
- Doctorate in Educational Counseling or related field (e.g., School Counseling, School Psychology, Counseling and Guidance, Educational Leadership)
- Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in Educational Counseling or School Psychology.
- Experience in teaching and/or working with adult learners.
- Bilingual in Spanish or other languages common in California’s student demographics
- Extensive knowledge in the use of technology in online teaching and student databases in schools
- Current LPCC certification or California license-eligibility or a current license as a master’s or doctoral level clinician from the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or California Board of Psychology.
