Job Summary

Coordinate and oversee a variety of student affairs/student life programs and services in order to improve the quality of student life and improve student retention.


The office of Student Conduct provides services that assist all students in being engaged and successful members of the Valdosta State University community by promoting and preserving a campus environment conducive to learning by the consistent application of the student conduct policies and procedures described in the VSU Student Code of Conduct. Our guiding community principles are civility, integrity, and citizenship as expressed in the Blazer Creed.

Services include connecting students to campus support services, facilitating and resolving conduct issues and complaints, highlighting university community values, and encouraging student engagement. Additionally, the Student Conduct Office provides co-curricular experiences that support the growth and development of students on campus.

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Conduct, the Student Affairs Coordinator (Student Conduct):

  • Serves as primary administrative hearing officer for the resolution of alleged violations of student misconduct and housing community guidelines occurring in University Housing through formal and informal process.
  • Serves as resource person for staff in University Housing by responding to a wide variety of inquiries and issues related to student conduct.
  • Serves as secondary site-administrator for Maxient conduct management database.
  • Serves as secondary investigator and hearing officer for the resolution of alleged violations of student misconduct that could result in suspension or expulsion.
  • Facilitates prevention programming in the areas of alcohol, drugs, civility, and sexual misconduct.
  • Assists in the revision and development of materials and presentations to new students attending Summer Orientation and SPARK.
  • Assists in the development of training opportunities for the Student Judicial Council and VSU Conduct Committees, as well as other groups as needed (e.g., Housing RHDs, etc.).
  • Assists in the annual review and revision of the Student Code of Conduct and Student Conduct Office policies, procedures, and webpage.
  • Assists with daily operation of the Student Conduct Office including answering phone, returning calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Deliver Programs and Services for Students - 40%
Develop, implement, and market programs and/or services which reflect the goals of the student affairs office and meets the needs of students. Implement data-based initiatives to gather and analyze formal and informal feedback from students. Stay abreast of trends, issues and best practices regarding a specific professional area.

Support Student Development - 20%
Provide coaching, guidance, and supervision of both individuals and student organizations on issues related to academic achievement, student development, leadership, conflict resolution, community building, and collaboration with other students and student groups on campus. Focus on creating an inviting and welcoming environment. Foster an atmosphere of student-staff learning and development.

Promote and develop partnerships - 20%
Develop and maintain initiative-based partnerships with campus partners and student organizations that address assessed needs and further the goals and vision of student affairs. Respond to campus partners, alumni and parent's questions, concerns and inquiries.

Enforce policies and procedures - 10%
Enforce university and system policies and procedures. Respond to issues and resolve problems.

Manage reports, records, and budgets - 10%
Maintain program files and records. Prepare a variety of regular and special report. Manage programming budgets.


Required Qualifications

Required Experience
Master's Degree with graduate assistantship, practicum, or internship experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
