Position Summary:

Under general direction of the Rathskeller General Manager this position will manage day to day operations of the Memorial Union indoor and outdoor restaurants. Supervision of permanent and part time staff.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Two or more years restaurant management experience.
Menu planning procedures and practices.
Cost analysis, profit and loss business concepts, inventory control and invoicing procedures.
Supervisory experience to include supervisory methods and practices including training, coaching, staff development, and motivation of full time and part time staff.
Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills as well attention to detail.
Strong self-direction and initiative.

License or Certificate:

Must have the following certification and/or able to obtain during the first six months of employment.
-ServSafe
-Responsible alcohol certification and ability to obtain City of Madison alcohol license

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates two buildings on the UW-Madison campus. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by twenty-two food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $45 million dollars.

The Wisconsin Union is part of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the
vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them
succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.

The work schedule will vary, to include days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedule dependent on business needs. A minimum of 45 hours per week during non-peak periods and a minimum of 55 hours during the peak periods of the year.
