Job Description
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring an Aviation Safety Coordinator to support the Aviation Safety Team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
Job duties include, but are not limited to: Assist the Aviation Safety Program Manager (ASPM) with ERAU investigations and reporting procedures for hazards, incidents, and accidents. Assist ASPM with On-scene Investigations for accident/incidents. Oversee all Team Safety Leader (TSL) responsibilities and maintain the TSL training program. Assist the ASPM with the implementation of all Aviation Safety programs – i.e. Safety Management System (SMS), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Program and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
Safety Report Submissions (ASAP, event, fatigue reports)
Aviation Safety Programs (SMS, ASAP, FDM, ERP and Risk Management)
Aviation Safety Data and Statistics (monthly, quarterly and annually)
Accident/Incident Investigation support – at campus and on-scene investigations
Team Safety Leader (TSL) Training Program
Aviation safety Communications (newsletters, safety shorts, safety scoops and emails)

- Analyze, investigate and provide recommendations for all ASAP,
event and fatigue report submitters
- Use all available Aviation Safety Department resources for
investigations (i.e., ADS-B tracking, FDM program, ATC audio)
- Provide Flight Department leadership with safety report trend
analysis derived from safety report submissions
- Engage in continuous feedback and communication for all safety
report submitters
- Open, assign and close safety report submissions within the
hazard reporting system for effective data analysis and
tracking
Aviation Safety Programs (SMS, ASAP, FDM, ERP and Risk Management)
- Manage the Flight Department Safety Management System (SMS)
program with continuous monitoring and safety improvements
- Assist ASPM in the management of the Aviation Safety Action
Program (ASAP)
- Spearhead the Aviation Safety Departments expanding Flight Data
Monitoring (FDM) program to include transition to new FOQA
program
- Assist ASPM the SMS risk management process and oversee
frequent risk assessment meetings regarding
current/potential/predictive hazards associated within the Flight
Department
Aviation Safety Data and Statistics (monthly, quarterly and annually)
- Manage all Aviation Safety databases and routinely conduct
trend analysis based statistics within the hazard reporting
system
- Oversee and manage the distribution of data statistics to key
leadership personnel within the Flight Department
- Provide TSL data specific trend analysis statistics for
routinely schedule team meetings
Accident/Incident Investigation support – at campus and on-scene investigations
- Assist with all Flight and Fleet Maintenance Department
incident/accident investigations
- Manage the investigative preliminary report process to include
factual information and brief summary of incident/accident
- Participate as a go-team member for all off-site aviation
related incidents/accidents
- Prepare regularly scheduled team meetings for incident/accident
investigation documentation and review
Team Safety Leader (TSL) Training Program
- Provide new TSL Instructor Pilots (IPs) Aviation Safety
Department specific training to include WBAT, ADS-B, FDM, ERG and
ATC audio programs for all safety report submissions
- Administer and oversee all TSL Aviation Safety specific access
program (i.e. ETA, RMS and WBAT) training
- Train all TSL members on Aviation Safety specific investigative
processes to include interviewing, proper documentation and hazard
identification trend analysis
- Manage TSL training program for team meeting
presentations
Aviation safety Communications (newsletters, safety shorts, safety scoops and emails)
- Manage all outgoing Aviation Safety communications,
publications and newsletters
- Oversee creative content for all Aviation safety social media
platforms
Secondary Job Functions or Duties:
- Social media content
- Represent ERAU Aviation Safety Department at meetings,
presentations and professional organization discussions
- New Hire Aviation Safety Emphasis Training

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree. ( Area of study: Aeronautical
Science/Aviation Safety/Related Field )
- Required licenses, certificates, and /or security
clearances:
Commercial Pilot License, Certificated Flight Instructor Certificate Preferred
- Must have knowledge of current 14 CFR Part 61, 91, 141 and 142
regulations
- Must exhibit strong communication skills and have the ability
to effectively speak with employees/students regarding safety
related events
- Must have effective interpersonal and organization skills
- Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems
(SMS)
- Ability to identify adverse trends and safety related
hazards
- Working knowledge of FAA voluntary safety programs
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
- One to three years of related work experience
