Job Summary/Basic Function
This position teaches in the School of Engineering programs. Duties include teaching general engineering courses at 100, 200, and some 300 levels. General Engineering topics include (but are not limited to):
-Introduction to engineering
-Introduction to engineering fundamentals
-Engineering economy
-Quality assurance
-Technical communications
-Probability and statistical methods for engineers
-Calculus for engineers
-Calculus with MATLAB
-Engineering ethical and legal issues
Duties also include maintaining curriculum, courses of study, and assessment work. Faculty will participate in the process of defining undergraduate computer science and engineering curriculum. In this capacity, faculty are expected to:
-Assist in curriculum review and development
-Develop laboratories to support engineering curriculum
-Create projects designed to enhance lectures
-Read and stay abreast of current topics in computer science and engineering
-Develop syllabus and review textbooks for adoption
-Propose and develop new courses as determined appropriate by the faculty
-Actively participate and support SACS and ABET accreditation preparation
Faculty are required by the university to:
-Teach contracted load
-Maintain office hours
-Mentor and advise students
-Keep timely records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed
Faculty will perform other duties as assigned and actively participate in university assemblies and activities.
Applicants must demonstrate a personal faith commitment to the University’s evangelical Christian purpose.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a graduate degree in civil, computer, electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or an engineering field or a relevant field such as operations research, human factors/ergonomics, and engineering management. Candidates in process of obtaining a terminal degree or candidates with a master’s and significant practical engineering experience may be considered.
Outstanding junior level candidates who have significant potential will also be considered at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research, teach first-year undergraduate classes, and contribute to the School’s service mission.
Applicants must demonstrate a personal faith commitment to the University’s evangelical Christian purpose.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference is given to candidates with a terminal degree in an engineering field. Preference will also be given to candidates who can also qualify to teach Calculus 1 or have a mathematics minor.
Work Hours
This is a residential position. Class schedules will be determined on a semester basis by the associate dean and dean of the school.
