The Kennesaw State University Library System is now accepting applications for an open rank, twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty position. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience.

 

The position is under the general supervision of the Director of Research & Instructional Services and part of the Research & Scholarship Team. A focus of the position will be delivering services to the students and faculty of the Wellstar College of Health & Human Services. The college offers degree programs in exercise science and sports management, health promotion and physical education, nursing, and social work and human services.

 

Because a number of classes take place on weekends or during the evenings, the position will occasionally be required to work during these times to serve the needs of the students. Although based primarily at the Kennesaw campus, this person may need to work at the Marietta campus or other affiliated locations.

 

Librarianship duties include (80%):

 

  • Provide instruction in research and information literacy for both face-to-face and online classes
  • Use a variety of means to deliver instruction, including but not limited to face-to-face sessions, asynchronous instruction, virtual instruction, and digital media
  • Foster relationships with faculty to incorporate library instruction into courses in multifaceted ways
  • Collaborate with colleagues in developing approaches for understanding and meeting research and teaching needs across schools and departments
  • Develop and maintain LibGuides and/or other digital or physical instructional materials to support subject disciplines and individual courses
  • Act as a resource to students for research consultations on individual and group projects
  • Work with students to develop advanced level library research skills including collecting, organizing, and analyzing sources
  • Provide reference assistance in support of upper level undergraduate and graduate education
  • Provide research assistance and reference services to faculty
  • Collaborate with library colleagues on projects and initiatives impacting collections and services
  • Participate in collection management-related activities (e.g., weeding, storage projects, electronic resources evaluation, and recommendations for purchase of resources in all formats)

 

Service (10%)

  • Engage in KSU Library System service, KSU University service, and service to the library profession.

 

Scholarship (10%)

 

  • Participate in scholarship, research, and/or creative activity. Contribute to the development of the library profession and/or subject-specific discipline through scholarship, presentations, and publications.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  1. Master’s degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association or the foreign equivalent is required
  2. Five years’ experience working as a librarian in an academic library
  3. Demonstrated experience or knowledge working with health and human services related information
  4. Experience with the core principles of qualitative and quantitative research and information literacy instruction
  5. Excellent instruction, presentation, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  6. Active professional development with a record of scholarly contributions and achievements

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  1. An advanced degree or certificate in health and human services or the social sciences
  2. Experience working in a medical or health sciences library or as a medical or health sciences subject specialist in a university library
  3. Experience providing data support services
  4. Experience with advanced business research support or as a business subject specialist.
  5. Advanced searching, instructional, or teaching skills
  6. Experience in the creation of online tutorials or other web-based instructional materials
  7. Experience with learning and content management systems (e.g. D2L Brightspace and Kaltura), and with virtual conferencing platforms (e.g. Collaborate)
