Assistant Program Director

The American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI) is accepting applications for Assistant Program Director. This is a part-time, exempt, and possibly remote position.

The Assistant Program Director will carry the distinct responsibility of supporting the operations and the programs of the American Academic Leadership Institute. This individual will manage the programs of the Institute, including logistics and technology. The selected candidate will support the AALI president by suggesting topics, speakers, and venues, in addition to executing those suggestions. Many of the communication aspects of the programs and organization will also rest with the Assistant Program Director. This is a small team where mutual trust and reliance are paramount.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to understanding best practices in programming and leadership development, the successful applicant should possess, at a minimum:
  • A bachelor's degree with a master's degree preferred
  • Work experience at a college, university, or higher education-related organization is strongly preferred
  • An understanding of and appreciation for the higher education environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Significant computer skills, including strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • The ability to represent the organization in a variety of settings with presence, eloquence, and warmth
  • High energy and integrity that drive an entrepreneurial spirit

    PROFESSIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Demonstrated professionalism, including the ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
  • Flexibility in working with a variety of personalities and the ability to thrive in a distributed work team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend solutions
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including courtesy, professionalism, and a cooperative attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and to work as needed to complete projects
  • Ability to adapt to new technology systems
  • Access to the internet and a reliable computer, if not located in Washington, D.C.
  • Willingness to travel as directed by the president, including, as needed, for programs

    COMPENSATION
    The salary for this position will be $35,000 - $40,000, dependent upon experience.

    Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available. A generous 401(k) is also provided, along with short- and long-term disability, life insurance, sick time, and vacation time.

    TIME REQUIREMENTS
    There will be busy times during June and July and select other times that will require the Assistant Director to work a full-time week or month. There are also select meetings and conferences that the Assistant Program Director will be expected to attend. Most weeks, however, it is expected that the individual will work roughly 16 hours a week. It is expected that the Assistant Program Director will establish set working hours each week and then work additional time, if needed, to ensure that projects and deadlines are met.
